Ashley Bonte ET 650 Internship in Educational Technology Fall 2013: 10-7-13 Reflection Two At the end of my last reflection,
I was ready to begin the design phase of my internship. Before starting, I decided to research articles and work towards my annotated bibliography. Originally, I planned on training teachers about the character skills with the idea in mind to have resources ready to use. As I read articles about collaboration and engagement strategies to build character, I realized that I was not designing a program sufficient to the twenty-first century learner. I was focused on making resources for teachers when there are already books out there that teach character traits! Teachers do not in fact need these types of tools. So instead, I spent time researching and analyzing my audience a little more. I still plan on doing a quick Prezi to introduce the 10 skills and discuss how to target talk them. I have decided to offer training on two other technological tools. One will be a wiki that explains the ins and outs of a wiki! This will help teachers utilize a collaborative tool to teach the character skills. Based off the articles that I have read, I realize how important and beneficial it can be used when taught the effectiveness to teachers. This decision was not made lightly I administered another 10 question survey to 3-5th grade teachers and spent time analyzing the results. I found that many of them want collaboration and a way to integrate more technology in their lessons. If I can offer a tool to help teach the character skills as well as help integrate technology in the core subjects, Im accomplishing even more! Finally, I have decided against the 10 books as deliverables. While I wanted a kid-friendly tool, I have found that the Bearenstein Bear books, while not interactive and online, already serve the purpose I was going after. Instead, I am going to design posters that can be displayed around the school as a reminder to students, to demonstrate the 10 character skills. Ive included the new deliverables as compared to the previous ones as well as some new milestones I hope to hit.
