You are embarking on an exciting learning experience that will greatly improve your understanding of the products involved in distributing, controlling and using electricity. The 101 Basics Series is a self-directed, computer-based learning program composed of 29 modules. Each module focuses on a specific product group. You select which modules to complete and set your own pace for learning. Purpose and Objectives The 101 Basics Series is designed to establish a fundamental understanding of the products manufactured by Eaton, and will prepare you for subsequent classroom and distance learning courses. Often, the 101 Basics Series or specific modules within the series are required as prerequisites for intermediate and advanced Cutler-Hammer Training courses. The modules contain the following information:
Introduction and definition of the product category and how it works. Discussion of common terminology, formulas and symbols. Theory, concepts, codes and regulations important to the product category. "In the Workplace" scenarios that introduce you to real world applications. "Helping the Customer" sections that help you determine proper application and solutions.
Who Should Participate The Cutler-Hammer Training 101 Basics Series is beneficial for everyone:
The Beginner looking for an introduction to the industry and its products. The Intermediate or Advanced learner who is extending into less familiar product or market areas. The Experienced professional seeking specific information or refresher courses.
If your focus is on residential, construction, or the industrial/OEM segment, you will find the product modules dedicated to your market. Refer to the 101 Basics Series Planning Chart for suggested lists of modules that are targeted to your market focus. Self-Directed Learning
Self-directed learning is different than regular classroom instruction. It takes more self discipline, dedication, and planning to stay on track. Here are a few simple steps to help make the most of your experience:
Decide which modules you are going to complete. Using the 101 Basics Series Planning Chart, take a moment now to select the modules you will complete assign an order. Set completion goals by planning your target start and completion dates. Pick a time and place to read. You may need to set aside 3 to 6 hours per module. Study with a group or a partner. Put up a poster that outlines each of your plans, and check off the modules as they are completed. Hold discussion sessions when everyone completes a specific module. Quiz each other on the review questions. Teach someone else what you've learned. You retain information longer when you teach it. This forces you to more fully understand and internalize the information. It will also make you aware of areas you may want to review.

Using the Modules The material in each module is presented in manageable sections followed by a series of questions. Do your best to answer the questions without referencing the material. Compare your answers to the answers at the end of each module. You are encouraged to go back and review as required. The modules are designed to encourage understanding, not just memorization. You will notice that many of the questions are not word for word duplicates of the text material. This encourages you to think about the question and not just react to it.
