1. Tell me about yourself. My background till now is in the field of mechanical engineering.

I finished my bachelors in India from Andhra University. After coming to US, I finished my masters from Univ of Missouri at Kansas City and I am presently pursuing my PhD at LSU. In the past 3 yrs, I worked as a Research Assistant on NDE of composites using immersion and contact type ultrasonic testing. I also had an opportunity of working as an Intern in Olson Engineering, Denver, where I was exposed to different non destructive examination techniques for non metals, such as concrete and wood. Also, I was an integral part of the team which designed an ultrasonic pulse echo scanner for the testing of concrete bridge walls. In addition to NDE, I have experience on characterization techniques such as SEM, XRD along with modeling knowledge using FEA, CFD and modeling packages. 2. What do you want to do with your life? I want to become one of the best engineers in the field of non destructive testing of composites for the company I work for. I plan to contribute my knowledge in the field of composites, to develop various techniques for NDE of composites and various materials. 3. Do you have any actual work experience? 4. How would you describe your ideal job? My ideal job is one that incorporates both my education and practical work skills to be the best I can be. Namely combining my education in composites and non destructive testing with my working knowledge of composites. I want to utilize my analytical expertise to help solve some of the intriguing problems in the industry. This is exactly why I am convinced that I would be a very valuable member of the Boeing team. 5. Why did you choose this career? My past experiences have shown me that I enjoy being in a field which involves in coming up with new materials and thereby checking the feasibility of materials in the real world. Right from my masters, I was fascinated by the wonderful field of composites, so without a doubt, I wanted to pursue a career in the field of composites. 6. When did you decide on this career? Right from my undergraduate, I was interested in the non destructive testing techniques. But, being in India we never had a chance to look at those techniques at the school level. So, when I was asked to work on the project of NDE of composites for my PhD, I grabbed the opportunity.

7. What goals do you have in your career? My goals include becoming a Certified Non Destructive testing engineer from ASNT so that I can obtain a better theoretical and working knowledge of NDE analysis, which would allow me to contribute to the benefit of the company which I am working for. Also, further I want to pursue my MBA in supply chain management so that I can advance in my career to the top levels of management. 8. How do you plan to achieve these goals? I am planning to start taking my ASNT exams, once I start my job because I will have enough experience technically to pursue the exam. I have already started preparing for the basics of the written exam in ASNT exams. I want to gain some experience for couple of years and then use the sufficient knowledge to pursue my MBA. 9. How do you evaluate success? Describe a situation in which you were successful. During my first semester in my PhD program, I started working on my Ultrasonic equipment. That was the first time; I started working on that technique. There was no one to even walk me through the basics of the equipment. Three months later, I learnt the equipment totally and also, I characterized adhesive joints which were supplied by BELL helicopters. The results which I could make out of the basic ultrasonic equipment matched very well with the results which researchers obtained from high end equipment such as ABUS. 10. What do you think it takes to be successful in this career? I believe successful engineers/researchers put forth that extra effort to understand the responses of NDE signals due to various types of defects. As NDE of composites and joints is fairly a difficult field to work on, engineers/researchers need to put in that extra time and effort to completely understand the materials behavior. Also, proper focus is required while characterizing the samples as there might be some false indications. 11. What accomplishments have given you the most satisfaction in your life? Dynamic modulus prediction 12. If you had to live your life over again, what would you change? 13. Would your rather work with information or with people? I like the validity of information and also like the energy that comes with working with people. The best thing about working in a group is combining the great minds from different perspectives and coming up with something extremely great, compared with when you're working alone. At the same time, information can generate vitality

in the project you're working on. No matter how many heads you've got together, without information, you can't go very far. The perfect situation would be a combination of working with information and people, and I'm confident of my abilities in both areas. 14. Are you a team player? 15. What motivates you? Excelling in my field, learning new things always, appreciation from co-workers and superiors, challenging projects and dead lines are some of the things which motivate me. 16. Why should I hire you? I sincerely believe that I'm the best person for the job. I do realize that there are many other college students who have the ability to do this job. I also have that ability. But I also bring an additional quality that makes me the very best person for the job -- my attitude for excellence. Not just giving lip service to excellence, but putting every part of myself into achieving it. In college and at my previous jobs, I have consistently reached for becoming the very best I can become. I think my leadership awards from my college, and my management positions are the result of possessing the qualities you're looking for in an employee. 17. Are you a goal-oriented person? Tell me about some of your recent goals and what you did to achieve them? Yes, Last year during my tenure as the president of Association for Indias Development, we had a goal of raising funds from close to 160 people and personally, I thought of raising the funds from 30 people. I am proud to say that, I have achieved it. 18. What are your short-term goals? I want to finish my doctorate along with the proposals I am writing and start working in a company which will enrich my research interests along with good experience in the technical side. I would like to make the company feel that it did a right thing by offering me a job. 19. What is your long-range objective? I want to learn the whole structure of NDE research and testing for Boeing and become one of the best NDE engineer.

20. What do you see yourself doing five years from now? Although, it is hard to predict the future, I sincerely believe that I will become the one of the best in the company. I think with my research and testing knowledge along with the experience I gain in the industry, I will progress in my career to top notch positions. 21. Where do you want to be ten years from now? Within 10 years, I want to become the best in the whole NDE industry of composites. I want to develop new techniques and methods for testing the materials in much easier way. I want to have developed a wonderful bond with my employer I will have proven myself a highly competent engineer and will represent my company in helping others find solutions to their needs in a professional and timely manner. 22. Do you handle conflict well? I believe I am quite good at handling conflict. Working in several organizations required that I make many unpopular decisions at times, whether it was terminating an associate or taking a decision which will not be interesting for others. Often the person in conflict with me would be upset and sometimes physically outraged. I would always make sure that I fully explained the situation, the policies behind my decision, and why those policies exist. Usually by the end of the conversation, the person could see the other side of the situation. (Parashars case and Ashoks case) 23. Have you ever had a conflict with a boss or professor? How did you resolve it? Yes. Once, I had conflict with my professor about the possible equations to apply for the given problem. I asked him to give me an opportunity to show what I was doing. I told him that the equation which I was showing may be more appropriate than the equation which he was asking me to apply. He understood what I said and then appreciated me for the effort I took to show the accuracy. 24. What major problem have you had to deal with recently? During my internship in Denver, I was assigned for the Weyerhaueser project. Shortage of peoplefinished work alone by working extra time. 25. Do you handle pressure well? I do handle pressure well. Dead line for papersother student did not finish work due to sickness, I took it up on me and finished it on time.

Some times I get impatient if people who r supposed to do their work dont do it. I know that it is not right, but I am trying to rectify it by sitting with people, explaining them the importance of it. 28. I have prepared myself for the transition from school life to career through real-world experience involving internship, and entrepreneurial opportunities. While interning with a private organization in Denver, I performed non destructive evaluation of wood logs using different ultrasonic NDE techniques.
