Prototyping Assignment Name:

The Info: When you are first creating a product it must be tested out
first to work out all the “bugs” first. A Prototype is an
original, full size, and usually working model of a new
product or new version of an existing product. In this
project you are going to be creating an original product
and building a full size model of it. In this project you will
be able to work in groups
The
Challenge: To design a piece of desirable furniture that can hold an
average person, given the materials in class.
The Step 1 ~ Research - Complete the questions on the Y: , in
Process: the All_DraftingClasses folder. The assignment is called
NewspaperResearch2-28-08. Please copy and paste the
questions into your webpage, and answer them.
Step 2 ~ Brainstorming -For each person in your group
draw a different design (if you have 2 people, two ideas,
for three people, three ideas, etc.) that you think will be
able to support the weight of a given person. These
designs must be isometric (3D), with various notes and
labels to explain how all the materials work together to
support the person.
Step 3 ~ Plan it! ~ In ProDesktop to create your solid
model, and multiview drawing. On this drawing you must
have enough dimensions to create your object.
Step 4 ~ Build it! Create your object according to your
blueprint. While you are building your object keep a list of
changes that occurred while building. This is bound to
occur, keep track of them on a sheet of paper.
Step 5 ~ Feedback – Write a 2 paragraph reflection.
Answer the following questions in your reflection:
How did your design work?
What would you have changed?
What would you have done differently?
What type of background information would have been
helpful in advance?
What did you learn?
Make sure it makes logical sense, and spelling counts!
Remember to use spellchecker in word!

Step 4- Build it!
Prototype is present and complete (30 pts)
Prototype is neatly constructed (there is no tape falling off, there is no
shifting while standing on it’s own, paper is neatly rolled (no krinkling),
etc.) (30 pts)
