COURSE TITLE: COURSE CREDIT: CARL B. MONTEREY APT 1 POULTRY PRODUCTION AND MANAGEMENT 3 UNITS (2 hours lecture, 3 hours laboratory) AY: 2012 1st Semester

Course Description: The management of poultry birds for the efficient production of meat and eggs with emphasis on housing, brooding, feeding and hygiene sanitation. Course Objectives: 1. To provide functional knowledge on the basic management aspects and practices in poultry raising. 2. Define and understand the different terms used in poultry production. 3. To develop skills in effective and efficient poultry production. 4. Identify the different breeds and strains of poultry species and their characteristics. 5. To understand the advantages and disadvantages of poultry enterprise. Course Outline: 1. Introduction 2. The biology of the chicken 3. Poultry breeding practices 4. Incubation and hatchery management 5. Brooding and growing of chickens 6. Commercial egg farm operation 7. Breeder flock management 8. Broiler farming 9.
