kept walking until I got to the next crossroad (56) where I met a man who told me about the Davenport Inn. He said the inn was in LeClair and that the innkeeper knew where the old wizard lived. The man was far too helpful, though, and I suspect he was more interested in the coin I offered than in helping a fellow traveller. We parted company and I walked on while he took the road to Mumsford. It was after marker 58 that I found the dead cow in the road, placed in a way that might dissuade travelers from taking the road to LeClair and to take the road to Bruemet instead. I was concerned that it was a warning of disease ahead, but I had to find the old wizard and the Davenport Inn was my only clue. I tied a handkerchief around my face and walked on toward LeClair.
