Nevada State Museum in Carson City, Nevada
This field trip can be for learning about Nevada History, or Native Americans culture and archeology. The field trip would be good for K-2 students because it will provide them with something to look at, and helps them make a connection to what theyre learning and have learned about Nevada.

Steve Easley (family friend and fire chief from East Fork Fire District.
Steve will share with the students what firefighters do, and how they fit into the emergency system. They will bring, fire coveralls, fire hose, and if available, a fire truck for the students to see and ask questions about. This would describe the fire fighter occupation, and why we have them in society. It will address H3.1.3 Identify and describe occupations in the community that help people, This field trip gives students an inside look at the first Thanksgiving. Students can see what people wore, what they ate, what their houses looked like, and they even get a good look at the Mayflower. It would be good for students to compare the Thanksgivings we have today, to the very first Thanksgiving. The field trip tour of the Mayflower is an added plus that literally walks students through a replica of the ship. This may be based on a small town in Indiana; however, it covers some of the major jobs found in any community. It goes into detail about the jobs of firefighters, police, restaurant workers, and doctors. Students can learn how important all of these jobs are in order to run our communities. A combination of History and Civics
Nevada State Capitol in Carson City, Nevada
This field trip (as seen in the video below) will give students an inside look of what goes on in the State Capitol. They will learn about Nevada history how and when our state came to be. They will also get an inside look of what takes place inside the capitol building and the senate. [Link]

Douglas County Historical Society has an educational program where they send a trained, retired teacher to the school to present a power point and artifacts to students based on the Trail to the Promised Land , The Pony Express, Going to School in the 1860s
I would have the Douglas County Historical Society do a presentation based The Pony Express and the route they took through the Carson Valley. The Pony Express is talked about from time to time up here, but many of the students dont really know what that is. So if someone were to come in and present information to the class along with artifacts, they would gain a much better understanding of the importance of the pony express route.

Virtual Field Trips
This field trip will help students get a better view of the white house through an informational online tour. The students can learn about and see some of the many different rooms in the white house without traveling Washington DC.

This is a virtual Exhibit that you can present to your class if you have internet and a SMARTboard. It goes hand in hand with the Standard below, and it allows students to see that Nevada Day in the eyes of those who were here in the 1930s on up. C13.4.5 Explain why we celebrate Nevada Day. 1. Explain which field trip you think you will actually try to use.
I think I would most likely use the Nevada Museum, State Capitol, The Pony Express, and The virtual White house tour. The fact that the Nevada Museum and State Capitol are so close and so rich in what they offer academically it would be foolish not to take students! I like that visitation field trip on The Pony Express will bring to life what happened here in our area years ago and how the route is still used today. Theyve probably heard about The Pony Express, but have never known what it really was, and this visitation would be a great way for students to learn all about it! Lastly, the White House virtual tour, because its not likely that we can take the whole class across the country, so by doing a virtual tour of the White House, everyone is able to experience it. Of course actually viewing it in person would be the best experience, but this I think would be the next best thing.
2. What challenges did you run into during this assignment?
I found that the virtual field trips were the most difficult to find, especially for grades K-2. I also found that a lot of the virtual tours were directed towards Science and not necessarily social studies. Other than that, I had no problems with this lesson, and I gained quite a few resources to take with me when I graduate.
