Literacy (Including Homework) Homework will be given out Monday and will need to be handed in by the following Friday.
(Every two weeks) Information Texts- Research a woodland creature using reference materials (books, IT sources). Children will then create an information book using the features of an information text. Shape poems- Read, share and discuss a variety of shape poems. Using photographs of woodland creatures, children will create their own shape poems. Myths and Legends- Compare and analyse a range of myths. They will use a story map to create their own myths, building up to a nal writing piece. Adventure and Mystery- Read a range of short adventure stories (linking to the Vikings) and after exploring plot structure, setting and characters, children will write their own adventure stories that explore a moral dilemma.

Topic Summer Term 1- Wild Wood - Visit a woodland setting and collect visual and other information about the habitat. -Develop a deeper understanding of woodland creatures through enquiry led activities - for example a spider enquiry. -Create a 3D exhibition which will show local residents which animals inhabit the local woodland area. -Write reviews of their own exhibitions and sculptures. Summer Term 2- Traders and Raiders -Invite a real life Viking into the classroom to talk to the children about Viking times. -Explore the use of Viking language and symbols known as runes. -Plan and present a Viking Fair. -Present their learning through displays, PowerPoint and verbal presentation.
Numeracy (Including Homework) Homework will be given out each Friday and will need to be handed in by Wednesday. Consolidate the solving one and two step problems that involve all four operations therefore opportunities provided for children to demonstrate being able to use and apply their learning. Continue to read, write and order numbers up to 10,000. Order, partition and round 3 and 4 digit numbers. To know the 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 times tables by heart. Children to know the relationship between the standard units of length. mass and capacity. Children to read, write and understand fractions such as of 12= 3. They will use written methods to add and subtract. Children to classify shapes and numbers using one or two criterion.
