Clinical Nursing Experience in Delivery

The student was excited for their first clinical duty in the delivery room (DR) after previously only having duties in the recovery room. NARRATIVE REPORT (INDIVIDUAL)

Being in a clinical area is considered to be my luckiest moment as a nursing student especially when I wear my whole white uniform and wearing my scrub suit if we were inside the Delivery area. It was our first time to have a duty in VRH (DR) because last semester, we the group 5, were only assigned to RHU. I am very excited that time because finally I could now compare a clinical and community setting in terms of Delivery. During our first day of duty, we are scheduled first to do a skills laboratory. Our C.I., Maam Camille as well as the C.I. of group 6, Maam Beverly discussed to us on how to do a partograph, intravenous therapy regarding on inserting, changing and removing an iv fluid, they also discussed to us the vaccines that can be given to a newborn baby until they reach the age of one year. A completely immunized infant should have 1 dose of BCG, 3 doses of HepaB, 3 DPT, 3 OPV and 1 Measles. They also discussed to us on how how to care a newborn baby starting from the mothers delivery , the proper delivery of placenta, the right steps on doing an episiorrhaphy and the proper usage of each instruments. On that first day of duty, I learned that being in a delivery areas is not as easy as what I expected because I found-out that somehow, you need to have a presence of mind in doing those things correctly. During our second day of duty, we had done first our quiz regarding on what we learned from yesterdays discussion.
