Well be learning all about helping others and giving thanks in our Ten Men Healed rotation on Sundays, March 3rd and 10th. Then we will put into action what we have learned on Sunday, March 17th as we go out into the community bringing muffins to those who enjoy a visit from us. If you know of someone we could put on our list, please let us know. On Sunday, March 24th, well have a special session in our Sunday School to hear the Palm Sunday/Easter story. The students will be handing out palm leaves and leading our Palm Sunday parade at the beginning of our church service. There is talk of presenting a short Palm Sunday Skit (around 5 minutes) with music from Jesus Christ Superstar. This would involve our Confirmation students and 5th, 6th, and 7th graders. Tim Ray would be leading us and practices would be on Sundays, March 3rd, 10th, and 24th at 10:00 am. There are two solo spots (Caiaphas and Jesus) with a chorus of singers being the crowd Hosanna, Heysanna, Sanna, Sanna, Ho! As soon as we get all the pieces put together, well be calling you and making announcements. Give us a yell if you can help!! Peace Lutheran Church engages its members through various roles and responsibilities, such as serving on councils (e.g., Nancy Waugh as Chairperson and Tom Perry as a member) and participating in events like the Men's Annual Meatball Supper and Palm Sunday Brunch . The church also involved youth in leadership during worship services and organized choir and skit practices, demonstrating active participation. Members were also responsible for overseeing and executing tasks, such as maintaining the church library, handling finances, and coordinating events like WELCA meetings .
Logistical considerations in Peace Lutheran Church's March planning included coordinating practice sessions for the Palm Sunday skit and parade, arranging community service activities like muffin delivery, and facilitating orders for Easter Lilies with Simpli-Flowers . They scheduled multiple rehearsals for skit participants, planned timing for the Altar Guild Palm Sunday Brunch, and ensured adequate assembly of relief kits for Lutheran World Relief. The church also managed meeting schedules, such as the Peace Cemetery Association's annual meeting and balancing regular religious services throughout Lent .
Peace Lutheran Church incorporated community feedback and participation by encouraging member involvement in decision-making processes, such as inviting members to help with event organization, participate in educational skits, and advise on church enhancements, like painting projects . The church council meetings facilitated member input regarding operational issues, such as approving memorial fund uses and selecting council members . They also sought community engagement for activities beyond the church, like organizing bids for cemetery maintenance and soliciting donations for World Relief kits .
Peace Lutheran Church made several adjustments for Lent and Easter observances, including arranging Lenten suppers and worship services on Wednesdays and special services on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday . They integrated educational elements into these observances by scheduling a Palm Sunday skit with preparation sessions and leading a Palm Sunday parade, ensuring the inclusion of different church members . Easter Sunday involved adjustments such as canceling Sunday School to allow for a focus on worship and family celebrations .
Significant liturgical events at Peace Lutheran Church in March included Palm Sunday worship on March 24th, featuring a Sunday School parade and skit . They held Maundy Thursday worship with communion on March 28th and a Good Friday service on March 29th. Easter Sunday service took place on March 31st, with adjustments such as canceling Sunday School to focus on Easter celebrations .
Peace Lutheran Church supports community service and outreach by organizing events like the distribution of muffins to community members during the Sunday School's lesson on helping others, scheduled for March 17th. This activity is an application of their learning about gratitude and service . The church also collaborated with Simpli-Flowers to supply Easter Lilies, linking specific orders to memories of loved ones, which fosters community engagement and participation . Additionally, items and kits were collected for Lutheran World Relief, encouraging congregation members to donate towards assembling baby care, school, and personal kits .
Pastor Matthew of Peace Lutheran Church shared personal challenges related to recovering from surgery on his left ankle, which involved a titanium plate and wires. This experience required him to slow down significantly and rely on others for support . During this period, the pastor reflected on the strength of his relationships and his faith, as he was unable to perform his usual duties, including caring for the congregation in his typical manner. This situation led him to deepen his prayer life and express gratitude for the community's supportive response .
Reading and literature were emphasized through Peace Lutheran Church's Women's Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (WELCA) book recommendations, which included titles like 'Amazing Grace' by Kathleen Norris and 'Heaven is For Real' by Todd Burpo. These books were made available in the church library for congregation members . The church also continued its support of reading as part of its cultural and educational programs throughout March .
Peace Lutheran Church included artistic and musical elements in their activities by preparing a Palm Sunday skit featuring music from 'Jesus Christ Superstar' and organizing a Palm Sunday parade. The skit involved confirmation students, and 5th, 6th, and 7th graders, with two solo parts (Caiaphas and Jesus) and a chorus of singers . Additionally, a men's choir practiced for the Meatball Supper event on March 17th .
In March, Peace Lutheran Church's Sunday School organized several activities focusing on education and community service. They conducted lessons on helping others and giving thanks, which were part of the "Ten Men Healed" rotation on March 3rd and 10th . On March 17th, students put these lessons into practice by delivering muffins to community members who appreciate visits from the church . Additionally, the students prepared a Palm Sunday skit with music from 'Jesus Christ Superstar' and participated in leading a Palm Sunday parade on March 24th .
