PE 5B: Wednesday and Friday 5E: Monday 5M: Tuesday Swimming 5E: Wednesday 5M: Wednesday Forest School 5B: Friday 5E: Tuesday What a Wonderful World This topic is about the 7 Wonders of the World. There are different lists of 7 Wonders - ancient, new, modern and natural. The topic is spit into 4 sections: Engage: Explore 7 Wonders of the World; find them on maps, visits from people who have travelled. Develop: Research a wonder of the World in more detail and make a leaflet and a model. Innovate: Plan and make a presentation about the 7 Wonders of the UK. Use research, ICT, drawing and painting skills. Express: Create a travel fair to show models of World Wonders and research on their UK wonder. Invite friends and family. (See below for date) There are lots of resources on the Learning Platform in the Year 5 course - What a Wonderful World. Allotments This project has a science focus and teaches children about different types and parts of plants, flowers and vegetables, their life cycles and what they need to grow. We will hopefully visit the Botanical Gardens and a local allotment. Also, we will be planting some trees, fruit, flowers and vegetables. We will be measuring, recording, dissecting, drawing ... all to do with plants. The aim will be to provide as much food for the school kitchen as possible while working in partnership with parents and other skills or organisations. All this will be recorded in a blog so you can keep up to date. If you could help with any aspect of this topic, please see Miss Mabb after school, by letter or at cmabb@[Link]
Numeracy (Including Homework)
Please help your child improve their skills in making quick mental calculations. Discussing different methods of working out calculations and choosing efficient strategies are key skills. Also supporting pupils with solving problems in a real context would be of great benefit such as in telling the time or solving money or measures problems such as in shopping and cooking. Homework will demonstrate the work studied in class that week. As with the Literacy, it is sent out on Friday and should be handed in the following Tuesday please. Please also check and sign your childs homework record.
