OVERVIEW
The Sauder School of Business is pleased to welcome exchange students to join our Master of Business Administration program for Fall 2012. We are a popular destination for MBA exchange students from schools throughout the world for our strong teaching and research reputation, international diversity and our spectacular natural setting. On June 5, 2003, the business school received a $20 million gift (the largest single private donation ever made in support of a Canadian business school) and in commemoration was renamed The Sauder School of Business. The University of British Columbia (UBC), established in 1908, is one of Canadas leading research universities and is consistently ranked among the top 40 in the world. The university attracts 54,000 students from across Canada and 140 countries around the world to two major campuses. Vancouver Campus The largest campus is 30 minutes from the heart of downtown Vancouver, a spectacular location that is a 'must-see' for any visitor to the city where snow-capped mountains meet ocean, and breathtaking vistas greet you around every corner. The campus is home to more than 37,000 undergraduate and 9,000 graduate students. Okanagan Campus Our second major campus is in the dynamic southern interior city of Kelowna in the Okanagan Valley. UBC's Okanagan campus, open since 2005, provides an intimate learning community in the spectacular wine-growing region of British Columbia. The campus educates more than 6,500 undergraduate and 450 graduate students.
MBA EXCHANGE ACADEMIC OVERVIEW
Term Dates: The Exchange Term covers two periods within the Fall 2012 Session: Period 5: September 4 to October 13 Period 6: October 22 to December 1 Students take four modules (courses) per period. Note: Professional Development seminars are held throughout the term and during the week of October 15. Exchange students are welcome to participate along with Full-Time MBA class. Areas of Specialization: Entrepreneurship, Finance, Marketing, Organizational Behavior and HR Management, IT Management, Strategic Management, Supply Chain Management and Sustainability and Business. Structure and Delivery of Classes: lectures, seminars, case studies, project works, group work, presentations and field trips. Language of Instruction: English Teaching Hours: 1 Module = 1.5 credits or 20 credit hours (note: Exchange students take 8 modules over two periods from September to beginning of December) Class Size: 50 students max in class; average 26 students in a class. Course Load: 4 modules per period (8 modules over duration of Exchange term) Grading: Percentage system used; 60% = Pass Examinations: Final Evaluations are held during the last week of class (during week 6 of each of Period 5 and Period 6). Final evaluations may involve a written examination and/or oral presentation, written paper, or assignment.
MODULES (COURSES) SELECTION & REGISTRATION
Module listing for Periods 5 and 6 will be made available to incoming Exchange Students in June 2012. Registration will open for all MBA students (including Exchange students) in mid-July. Registration is facilitated by our online system, the details of which will be sent to exchange students in June for enrolling in selected modules.

Deadlines: Exchange Nomination (by home university): March 26, 2012 Exchange Student Application: April 16, 2012 Single Person Housing Application: May 1, 2012 Early Arrival Housing Application: First week of July 2012 Latest Expected Arrival Date: August 29, 2012 (Mandatory Orientation will be held on August 30th and Tour of Vancouver on August 31st) For information regarding exchange at the Sauder School of Business, please visit: [Link] nbound_Exchange Housing: On-Campus, single-student housing (not guaranteed); housing applications are received by May 1, 2012. Students looking to secure off-campus accommodation should expect to spend $800 $1,000 CAN per month for a 1 bedroom apartment. Visa Details: A Study Permit (formerly called a student authorization or student visa) is only required of international students who plan to study and live in Canada for more than six months. Given exchange duration is under 6-months, non-Canadian students are not required to obtain a Study Permit. Details are found on the Citizenship & Immigration website at: [Link] Medical Insurance: Exchange students at UBC are required to obtain the IMED: Health Insurance for New International Students. There is a charge of $170 CAD for this insurance which will provide basic medical coverage during the exchange term. Orientation & Tour of Vancouver: To assist students in assimilating to life at the Sauder School of Business, the University of British Columbia and Vancouver, a one-day mandatory Exchange Student Orientation is held on August 30th and the Tour of Vancouver on August 31st,.

ESTIMATED EXCHANGE EXPENSES
Exchange students are exempted from paying UBC MBA tuition since tuition is paid to the home institution. The following fees and expenses are only ESTIMATES for a single student and are subject to change without notice. Expenses are in Canadian dollars and may vary depending on the students own personal spending habits.

STUDENT SERVICES
Exchange Buddy System: The MBA Student Society (MBAS) organizes a buddy-system for incoming Exchange students to help new students get acquainted with their peers in the MBA program and to answer questions, give guidance/advise and ensure students feel comfortable in their new environment. Exchange students are invited to BBQs, Canadian Cultural Week and other social events organized by the MBAS. Business Career Services: The Business Career Centre (BCC) is available to Exchange students (same level of services as available to full-time MBA students).
