What scene(s) we shot there and why


As a group we came to the conclusion that setting our first scene in the school/sixth form playground would be a good idea for many reasons. One of the reasons as to why setting our first scene in the school playground would be a good idea is because our viewers would get a clear sense of where our short film is set, and that our main character, Olivia, is indeed a student at this school/sixth form. Another reason as to why we decided to set our first scene in the school playground is because it is a wide, open space, which will be useful when we are showing Olivia looking around at her surroundings. We decided that the sports hall would be a good place to shoot one of the flashbacks that our main character, Olivia, has. The main reason as to why we decided to do this is because sport is something that all students at a secondary school must participate in, and it is almost 100% prone to embarrassing moments, so we believed that shooting an embarrassing moment of our main character during a P.E lesson in the sports hall would seem fairly realistic. Also, a good reason to shoot a P.E lesson in the sports hall is because most P.E lessons occur in a sports hall, so this would make our scene even more realistic.

We decided to shoot a scene of Olivia walking down a school corridor to add some school atmosphere to our film, and to make it all seem a little more realistic. Another reason as to why we thought it would be a good idea to shoot this scene in a school corridor is because we needed to show Olivia approaching the classroom, and peering in through the window.

Classroom

We used this classroom to shoot the scene in our short film where Olivia accidentally sits on a piece of gum which has been placed on her chair is because we believe that it is the most convenient place to shoot this scene in, where there are lots of chairs, etc, and we also believe that the most likely place for something like this to happen is in a classroom. We also believe that shooting this scene in a classroom will make everything more realistic, and will make it clear to our viewers that in this scene Olivia is in her younger school years. We came to the conclusion that shooting a scene that consisted of Olivia leaving the school building before the final flashback near the end of our short film would be a good idea. We were

convinced that this would be a good idea as it would successfully indicate to our audience that our film was coming to an end shortly after. We shot the scene where Peter is telling Olivia that hes gay on a bench situated outside of the main entrance of the school. We did this because it synchronised with our film very well seeing as this scene is near the end of our film, and straight after this scene Olivia begins to walk towards the exit of the school premises which is very close to where we shot the scene where Peter tells Olivia that hes gay. A scene that consisted of Olivia taking a final look at the school sign, and walking away, was shot remotely outside of the school grounds. As a group we decided that this would be a good idea as it would enable our film to have a sincere ending, and would also symbolise that Olivia was leaving high school, which is what our film is all about.
