A particular strength of our proposal to reduce the wastage of skills in higher-educated inmates through getting them to conduct lessons
for other inmates is that instead of merely highlighting the existing problem of wastage to our target agent, SCORE directly, we are making use of the public as a channel to help convince SCORE by making them aware of the wastage that higher-educated inmates face, which is a more interesting way of highlighting the problem. The public can push for changes much more effectively, because SCORE would be more willing to implement changes when there are many people who are aware and pushing for it, rather than just individuals highlighting the problem. Because the above strength is so good, the idea of using the public as a channel to push for changes from organizations can be used to solve problems like pushing for governments to take a more active step in aspects like environmental awareness, like getting governments to met out heavier punishments for those who pollute the environment. Thus, the most efficient way of getting organizations to implement changes would be to get the public involved, public awareness is crucial. With regards to our target group of higher-educated inmates who are jailed long term, upon reflection, we could expand our target group to all inmates instead. The choice of target group initially, is too narrow, it is not only the higher-educated prisoners who experience a wastage of skills, although their wastage would be greater and have larger impacts on society. Instead of having higher-educated inmates teach, we could have sessions in which the students become the teachers, ie. The lesser-educated inmates doing the teaching instead. They will be set topics to do research on, then presenting them to other inmates, in a way benefitting more too because they are directly involved in their own learning. There is also difficulty in getting information on our target group, because many ex-convicts are reluctant to share about their time in prison, which has tainted their reputation and is a past they are ashamed of. In terms of other possible applications of our proposal, the idea of putting inmates through lessons by higher-educated inmates can be adapted to help youth drug abusers in rehabilitation. These youths face problems like low self-esteem, poor confidence, and assimilating into society, like inmates but the difference lies in the fact that education is more important for these youths, who are working towards degrees, and college upon their release. However, instead of teaching, for lessons would be conducted by outsiders, youths would be paired up, and those who learn faster will help those who have difficulties catching up, similar to higher-educated inmates sharing their knowledge and skills with the other inmates. The online portal which we have suggested in our proposal can also be implemented here, youths can be set homework on the portal, they can choose to have discussions and clarify any doubts with their teachers.
