Wyke Beck Valley Daffodil Planting Event

Pupils from Grange Farm Primary School and volunteers from Call Credit planted 4000 daffodil bulbs and other plants in the Wyke Beck Valley as part of the Wyke Beck Valley Pride project, which aims to involve local communities in environmental improvements around the valley. The deputy headteacher from Grange Farm Primary School said it is valuable for students to be involved in developing their local area. The Wyke Beck Valley coordinator noted that over the past year Grange Farm students have helped plant 4000 bulbs, 2000 wildflowers and over 500 trees in the area to benefit wildlife. The Wyke Beck Valley Pride project receives funding from Natural England and aims to connect communities with their natural environment through environmental activities and improvements over three years.

Something to tweet about in the Wyke Beck Valley


Pupils from Year 6 at Grange Farm Primary School have dug deep to plant 4000 daffodil bulbs at Arthurs Rein in the Wyke Beck Valley. The children were joined by 25 volunteers from Leeds based Call Credit. Jo Geary, Deputy Headteacher at Grange Farm said, Its great to be part of the Wyke Beck Valley Pride project. There is so much value in our pupils being involved in the development of their own local area, and having an opportunity to work alongside volunteers from companies such as Call Credit. John Kilner, Wyke Beck Valley Co-ordinator, said Its fantastic that Grange Farm are so involved in the project. Over the past year theyve helped plant 4000 bulbs, 2000 wildflowers and over 500 trees in the area. Not only does the area look nicer, it will also benefit wildlife. This is just one way people have been getting involved in the three-year Wyke Beck Valley Pride project which aims to engage local communities around the Wyke Beck Valley in environmental improvements and activities, to connect them with their local natural environment and encourage involvement in its development. Wyke Beck Valley Pride has received funding from Natural England as part of its 25million Access to Nature programme, funded through the Big Lottery Funds Changing Spaces programme. It is being delivered in partnership by Wyke Beck Valley Community Forum, Leeds City Council, Groundwork Leeds, TCV, Ahead Partnership and Voluntary Action Leeds.
