FADE IN: EXT. GARDEN - DAY HOST (Pleasantly) Hello, everyone.

Today, I will be taking you on a journey through one of the greatest breakthroughs in medicine history, Forensic science. Walks forward slowly HOST So, what exactly is forensic science, or as some say, forensics? In the simplest of terms, it is the application of a broad spectrum of sciences to answer questions of interest to the legal system. This may be in relation to a crime or to a civil action. To better understand how forensic science helps in deciphering a crime, let us watch a short film titled whodunnit? which features a murder. -WHODUNNIT?1. EXT. NIGHT SURROUNDINGS A woman is running along a HDB void deck. A shadow follows her. The escapist was cornered. The shadow slows down. The person moved closer. Yvonne looks up at her face. A shade of fear appears on her face. She backs away. M moved menacingly towards her. PURSUER How have you been, Yvonne? You must have been well-off with the museum, eh? YVONNE No Why Why? M

You know it, dont you? In fact, you knew it long ago. With that, M whipped out a knife and moved menacingly. The boots make no noise on the floor. YVONNE No! NO! Aaaargh! In one fluid motion, she had took out her knife and stabbed Yvonne in the stomach. Zoom into Yvonnes still and crumpled form. M threw her knife near Yvonnes body, wiped her hands, adjusted her jacket and cap, and stalked off. Fade In, Scene 2 HOST A woman has been murdered. The police are called in. Have you ever wondered how they carry out their investigations? More often than not, they seek help from the dead person. (Smiling)Yes, dead men can, indeed, tell tales. How then, do the police obtain information from the corpse? To do that, they require the help of a group of people called forensic scientists. When a crime is committed, the criminal will unwittingly leave behind many clues. Although the criminal might not be aware of this, these pieces of evidence left behind at the crime scene can tell a story and they help detectives solve mysterious cases. Forensic Science is the science of studying the evidence found at a crime scene. As cadet forensic scientists, we will learn about the evidence that we can look out for at a crime scene. As forensic scientists, we must focus on the things that cannot lie; and this is the evidence. Now, back to Whodunnit. FADE IN: SCENE 3 HDB VOID DECK AFTERNOON Were in the middle of a crime scene. A policeman and a post-mortem physician was gathered around a zipped up sleeping bag. The physician had several plastic bags

containing some nails, hair, cloth fibres, blood droplets. A policeman is dusting the place for fingerprints. SHERWOOD hurries up to them. SHERWOOD Any leads, Bell? BELL We dont know yet. Well send it to the specialists in England. Itll take about a month. SHERWOOD Any suspects? Lovers, friends, enemies? BELL Your guess is as good as mine, Inspector INSPECTOR WONG There you are, Inspector! And I was getting worried. The killer is good. He covered up all his tracks. We have found some skin samples. We only found some footprints that are identified by Bell as those of a limited edition Nikes Sportswear. BELL Yes. We had the crynoacrylate fuming test done, but nothing showed up. But somethings very interesting. (She produced a ziplock bag. Inside it contained some leathery material) We found this around the knife. Plus, if the murderer think its enough to hide his fingerprints, then hes wrong. Weve got the material that coats the knife handle, which is bought from NTUC and which I presume is around seven years old. SHERWOOD I think that if I were the murderer, I wouldnt go overseas. I mean. He obviously have something to gain from by killing her. Professor Lim is said to be a nice

person, she rarely has enemies. So lets find those who stand to gain something by killing her. Like, maybe shes got a promotion and other professors are jealous of her? I dont know. BELL Well, maybe itll work. Ill just send this to the analyzing headquarters in London. Private Wong, will you help me question Professor Lims friends, relatives, co=workers about their whereabouts and suspects? PRIVATE WONG Yes. Fade In: Act 4 1. INT. POLICE - HEADQUATERS DAY Sherwood and Bell are watching intently at the computer screen. They were reading an email from the specialists in London. Jade Tans father owns the museum. He died earlier this year. In her fathers will, he states that the museum will be left to Professor Lim, and then if she died, to Jade. Jade has been in financial difficulties lately. As she did not have many friends, we assumed she resorted to the murder of Professor Lim to gain money by selling off the museum. She knew that Professor Lim, lover of historical artefacts, will never allow her to sell off the museum. So she killed her. BELL Oh my Plus, the fibres in the crime scene completely matches the suspects cloth fibres. The footprint also matched the one she bought. The skin samples found, such as from dandruff, are all of her DNA. We have reasons to believe that Ms. Jade Tan is the murderer of Professor Yvonne Lim.

Sherwood and Bell looks at each other deep in thought. BELL So now were going to her house. Im bringing along some search tools. Better bring along some firearms, Jade must be strong for a woman. You dont know what people might do it theyre cornered. SHERWOOD True. Ill drive. They went out of the room into the carpark. Moments later, you can hear the engine driving off. FADE Int Outside HDB flat Noon We see a rather new-looking HDB flat looming up. The camera tracks to the fifth storey. Then it flickers, and when it reappeared, its shown from inside the eyehold. BELL (rings the bell) Hello? Is anyone inside? Sherwood discreetly tucked a gun under her coat. Slow footsteps are heard coming towards the door. It was flung open by a woman wearing Nike sports shoes, Jade Tan. JADE (irritably) what do you want? Im late for my session at the gym. BELL Miss Tan? Were detectives and would like a word with you. SHERWOOD We have reason to suspect you for the murder of Miss

Yvonne Lim yesterday night. JADE (looks down) I did not do it. SHERWOOD Well, we still need you to go down to the police station to give us your statement. JADE (looks flustered. A nervous tic started near her neck. She shouted) I said I did not do it! BELL Miss, we hope for your cooperation. Jade suddenly burst open the door and shoved Sherwood aside. Jade ran down the stairs. Sherwood and Bell ran after her. Gaining speed, Bell and Sherwood drew near. Jade reached for a pocketknife inside her pocket, but was stopped when Sherwood raised the gun. SHERWOOD Drop your knife or Ill shoot you. Put your hands up. Up. Jade reluctantly did as she was told. Bell moved behind her to handcuff her. Then they pulled her back to her house. FADE IN: ACT 5 1. INT POLICE STATION SINGAPORE AFTERNOON Private Wong (matter-of-factly) Your evidences dont match, Ms. Tan. You said you were at home the whole of last night. But your neighbours reported that you never did what you always did on a Sunday night, watch TV. Plus, the

synthetic fibre of your gloves match the one we found at the crime scene. Your height and race matches too. You knew Professor Lim. Your coat and hat materials have shown the same materials as those in the crime scene. JADE I demand a lawyer! Of course many people buy the same kind of brand of gloves, hats, coats, and boots. You cant blame me. SHERWOOD Theres something going on between you, isnt there? Some petty feud like betrayal? JADE (blurts out, looking quite mad) Petty feud! Losing my fathers museum is no big deal. If shes not alive, then the museum will be mine! MY foolish father, he gave the museum to her. Now that shes dead, I will have it! (laughs cruelly) PRIVATE WONG So, you confess to the murder? Miss Tan keeps silent PRIVATE WONG So? JADE (Looking defiant) So what if I did? PRIVATE WONG Right, Ill tell the inspector this moment to get the legal documents drawn up.

He stands up and goes out of the door. JADE sinks back in her chair and covers her head in her hands. All goes black. FADE IN: EXT. GARDEN - DAY HOST So, the murderer had confessed to her crime. Due to the fact that she got depression, the judge decided to let her have imprisonment for life instead of the death verdict. This was a hard case as the policemen only had a few clues left the blood, hair, and nails all belonged to the victim. However, it was the murderers clothes that gave her away. With forensic science, we can solve a crime so much easier. Of course, common sense cannot be missed as in the part when Sherwood surmised that the woman was suspicious because of the irony of her clothes and the weather. Now let us interview some people from all walks of life and find out what they think of forensic science. (Smiling) FADE IN EXT. OUTSIDE XXX POLICE STATION DAY (Wide shot) Interviewer police station. and Host stands outside the

HOST This is the XXX police station. Want to know what a police man thinks of forensic science? Shalyn will be the interviewer. So what are we waiting for? Lets go! (Shows enthusiasm) Both of them go inside the station. They approached the policeman sitting at the desk. INTERVIEWER
