PART 1: BASIC COMPUTER FUNDAMENTALS & HARDWARE
1.1 Introduction to Computers
1.1.1 Definition
A computer is an electronic device that accepts data as input, processes it according to a set of instructions, and
produces output. It works on a simple cycle: Input → Process → Output → Storage.
Computer aik electronic machine hai jo data ko input leti hai, usay instructions ke mutabiq process karti hai, aur output
deti hai.
1.1.2 Data vs Information
Data means raw, unorganized facts and figures that have no meaning on their own. Information is data that has been
processed, organized, and structured so that it becomes meaningful and useful.
Data khaali raw facts hote hain jinka apne aap koi matlab nahi hota. Jab usi data ko process kiya jata hai to wo
information ban jati hai jo samajh aaye.
This distinction connects directly to how computers work: the CPU takes in data, processes it, and turns it into
information.
1.2 History of Computers
1.2.1 Charles Babbage
Charles Babbage is known as the Father of the Computer. He designed the Difference Engine and later the Analytical
Engine, which introduced the basic concept of a programmable computer.
Charles Babbage ko computer ka baap kaha jata hai. Unhon ne Difference Engine banaya aur baad mein Analytical
Engine design ki.
1.2.2 Ada Lovelace
Ada Lovelace wrote a detailed set of instructions (an algorithm) for the Analytical Engine. Because this was essentially
the first computer program ever written, she is considered the world's first computer programmer.
Ada Lovelace ne Babbage ki machine ke liye instructions likhe, isi liye unhein pehli programmer mana jata hai.
1.2.3 Alan Turing
Alan Turing is regarded as the father of modern computer science and artificial intelligence. During World War II, he
broke the German Enigma code. He later proposed the Turing Test, a method to check machine intelligence.
Alan Turing ko modern computer science ka baap mana jata hai. WWII mein unhon ne Enigma code toray. Baad mein
Turing Test ka idea diya.
1.2.4 Why History Matters
Babbage gave the machine, Lovelace gave the programming, and Turing gave the theory of intelligence.
1.3 Generations of Computers

Transistors ne vacuum tubes ki jagah li, jis se computers chhotay aur sasty ho gaye.
1.3.3 Third Generation (1964-1971)
Integrated Circuits (ICs) were introduced - many transistors combined onto a single silicon chip. Keyboards and
monitors became standard.
Integrated Circuits (IC) mein bohot se transistors aik chip par fit ho gaye. Isi daur mein keyboard aur monitor aam istemal
hone lage.
1.3.4 Fourth Generation (1971-Present)
The microprocessor was invented using VLSI (Very Large Scale Integration) technology, leading to personal
computers, laptops, and the internet.
Microprocessor mein poora CPU aik chip par aa gaya. Isi wajah se personal computers aur internet mumkin hue.
1.3.5 Fifth Generation (Present & Beyond)

Logical functions test whether a condition is true or false. AND returns true only if all conditions are true. OR returns
true if at least one condition is true. NOT reverses a logical value (true becomes false, and vice versa). Note that SUM
is a mathematical function, not a logical one.
Logical functions check karte hain ke condition sahi hai ya ghalat. AND tab sahi hota hai jab sab conditions sahi hon, OR
tab sahi hota hai jab koi bhi aik condition sahi ho, NOT value ko ulat deta hai.
6.2.4 IF Statement
The correct syntax of the IF function in Excel is: =IF(test, result if True, result if False). It checks a condition and
returns one value if the condition is true, and another value if it is false.
Excel mein IF function ka sahi tareeqa hai: =IF(test, result if True, result if False). Yeh condition check kar ke sahi ya
ghalat ke hisab se result deta hai.
6.2.5 Cell Referencing
When you define a name for a cell or range in Excel, it provides an absolute reference to that cell. A relative reference
changes when copied to another cell (e.g., A1). An absolute reference stays fixed when copied (e.g., $A$1). A mixed
reference locks only the row or only the column (e.g., $A1 or A$1).
Cell ya range ko naam dene se absolute reference milta hai. Relative reference copy karne par change ho jata hai,
absolute reference fix rehta hai, aur mixed reference sirf row ya column ko lock karta hai.
