Objectives by the end of this class:
 I will be able to recognize terms describing the mouse and follow instructions
using the correct terms.
 I will recognize the difference between right and left clicking and be able to
use the correct button for a given task.
 I will be able to double click, drag, and scroll with ease.

Wheel Back—Palm Rest

Keep fingers relaxed with pointer finger and middle fingers resting
gently on the left and right buttons.
Pointer/Cursor: Moveable guide on computer screen that shows the point that will
be affected by clicking or entering text.

Pointing: Slide the mouse (in any direction) to move the pointer on the screen
the same direction. Rest your hand on the mouse, move it around slowly up and
down and from side to side, and watch the arrow on the screen.

Left-Click: Left-click is used to choose and perform directions. (99% of your clicks)

Right-Click: Right-click is used only to access various menus. (1% of your clicks)

Single Left Click: Gently press down and then release the left mouse button
one time. A single click will usually select or can be used to highlight an object.

Drag and drop: Move the mouse directly on top of an item. Press and hold the
left mouse button down. Still holding the button down, move the mouse to the desired
location. When you release the mouse button the object will stay in the new location.

Right Click: Clicking the right mouse button will “pop-up” a menu. This menu will
change depending on what program you are currently using. (ex. The menu on the
main desktop will be different than the menu that will pop-up when using the internet
browser).

Scrolling: When only part of a document or webpage can be seen on the screen,
“scroll” up, down, or across the screen to see the rest of the information. Scrolling can
be done using either the scroll wheel, or the scroll bar.

Scroll wheel: The page will “scroll” up or down when you push the wheel forward or
back using your finger.

Scroll bar: To move one line at a time, click once on the up/down or left/right arrows
on the sides of the window. To move more quickly, click the scroll box itself. Hold
down the left mouse button. By sliding the mouse up, down or sideways it will slide the
scroll box up, down or sideways. Release the button when you are at the desired loca-
tion.
