Option 2: Talent is more important

 In certain fields (music, art, mathematics, sports),
natural ability gives people an advantage.
 Hard work cannot replace a natural gift entirely.
 Example: Mozart had musical talent at age 5.
Option 3: Both are equally important (balanced
view)
 Talent provides natural advantages.
 Hard work helps people use and develop their talent.
 This is the safest option
Example: a talented footballer still needs hours of
training to succeed.
Body Paragraph 1 – Hard work
 Explain why hard work leads to success
 Examples: training, consistency, study habits
Body Paragraph 2 – Talent
 Explain the role of talent
 Examples: natural musical ability, high creativity,
physical traits in sports
Conclusion
 Restate your view clearly
6. Important: No extreme statements
The examiner prefers:
 balanced, logical arguments
 real-life examples
 avoiding “everyone” or “always”
Introduction
 Paraphrase
 State your view
Body 1 – View you do not agree with
 Explain it
 Provide an example
Body 2 – Your opinion (the side you support)
 Explain clearly
 Provide a stronger example
Conclusion
 Restate your opinion

Example (supporting hard work)

Body 1 – Talent
 Talent provides a natural advantage
 Example: some children can play instruments easily
Body 2 – Hard work (your side)
 Hard work creates consistent progress
 Example: athletes train daily to reach a high level

Body Paragraph 1 — Talent (the side you don’t

support)
Topic sentence:
Some people argue that talent is necessary because it
gives people a natural head start.
Supporting ideas:
 Talented individuals learn skills faster and more
easily.
 Certain fields (music, art, sports) benefit from
natural ability.
Example:
For instance, a naturally gifted musician may pick up
complex melodies quickly, even at a young age.
Mini-conclusion:
While talent can create early advantages, these benefits
are often limited without effort.
3. Body Paragraph 2 — Hard work (the side you
support)
Topic sentence:
However, hard work is the key factor that determines
long-term success.
Supporting ideas:
 Hard work builds discipline and consistency.
 Even talented people must practise to improve.
 Hard-working individuals can outperform talented
but unmotivated people.
Examples:
 Professional athletes train for hours daily to stay
competitive.
 A student who studies regularly usually gets better
results than a naturally clever student who does not
revise.
Mini-conclusion:
Therefore, effort and perseverance matter more than
talent in most situations.
ESSAY 1 — Talented People
Televised talent shows have become extremely popular
in many societies in recent years. In my opinion, these
programs are an effective way of discovering talented
individuals rather than being purely for entertainment.
One major reason is that talent shows provide
opportunities for people who might otherwise remain
unnoticed. Many gifted singers, dancers or performers
do not have access to professional training or industry
connections. By appearing on television, they are able to
showcase their abilities to a wide audience, including
experts and producers. As a result, some contestants
receive contracts or professional guidance after the
show ends.
Another reason is that these programs are usually
judged by experienced professionals. Judges often have
years of experience in the entertainment industry and
are able to recognize genuine skill and potential. In
addition, contestants are required to perform under
pressure, which helps identify those who can succeed in
real-world conditions. This makes talent shows a useful
platform for finding individuals who are capable of
professional performance.
In conclusion, although televised talent shows are
designed to attract viewers, their role in discovering and
promoting talented people should not be
underestimated. Overall, they are an effective method of
identifying talent.

ESSAY 2 — Entertainment
Televised talent shows are widely watched around the
world today. However, I believe that these programmes
are mainly designed for entertainment rather than for
finding genuinely talented people.
Firstly, the primary goal of talent shows is to attract high
viewing figures. Producers often focus on emotional
stories, dramatic judge reactions and audience voting to
keep viewers engaged. As a result, entertainment value
is prioritized over skill. Many contestants receive
attention not because of their talent, but because of their
personality or personal background.
Secondly, the results of these shows are often influenced
by popularity rather than ability. Since audiences are
usually responsible for voting, contestants who are more
attractive or entertaining may succeed, while more
talented individuals are eliminated early. Furthermore,
many winners fail to achieve long-term success after the
program ends, which suggests that the shows do not
reliably identify lasting talent.
In conclusion, although televised talent shows may
occasionally introduce skilled performers to the public,
their main purpose is entertainment. Therefore, they
should not be considered a serious method of finding
talented people.

ESSAY 3 — Both
Televised talent shows have gained popularity in many
societies as a form of mass entertainment. While some
people believe these programmes help discover talented
individuals, others argue that they exist mainly to
entertain audiences. In my view, talent shows serve both
purposes, although entertainment is often the dominant
focus.
On the one hand, talent shows can be an effective
platform for identifying gifted performers. They allow
ordinary people to present their abilities to a large
audience and receive feedback from experienced judges.
In some cases, contestants gain valuable exposure and
professional opportunities after the show, which
suggests that genuine talent can be recognised and
developed.
On the other hand, it is clear that entertainment plays a
major role in these programmes. Producers often
highlight dramatic moments, emotional personal stories
and conflicts between judges to increase viewer interest.
In addition, public voting can favor popular contestants
rather than the most skilled ones, which reduces the
reliability of these shows as talent-finding tools.
In conclusion, televised talent shows combine both
talent discovery and entertainment. However, while they
may occasionally identify skilled individuals, their main
aim is to entertain the public and achieve high ratings.

Discuss both views and give your opinions

We need to do 3 things:
- address first view
- discuss the second view
- give your opinion: agree with the first view or the
second view, or a balanced opinion
Giải thích tại sao view 1 đúng, tại sao view 2 đúng và đưa
ra quan điểm cá nhân
Intro: paraphrase the question + câu cuối: In this essay, I
would evaluate both schools of thought before proposing
my own perspective on this matter. ( what are you going to

Useful language for this framework
Instead of always saying good or bad, students can use
these expressions:
Positive outcomes
 stay healthy
 improve their quality of life
 reduce the risk of disease
 prevent serious illnesses
 recover more quickly
 make healthier choices
 enjoy better physical and mental health
Negative outcomes
 develop health problems
 suffer from chronic diseases
 become overweight
 experience more stress
 delay medical treatment
 face higher medical costs
 have a lower quality of life
Question 1
Should people exercise regularly?
Framework
 If people do...
 If they don't...
 Conclusion
Sample Answer (Band 6)
Yes, I definitely think people should exercise regularly. If
people exercise on a regular basis, they are more likely
to stay fit, maintain good health, and reduce the risk of
diseases such as obesity and diabetes. Exercise can also
help relieve stress and improve mental health. On the
other hand, if people don't exercise enough, they may
lead a sedentary lifestyle, gain weight, and develop long-
term health problems. Therefore, I believe regular
exercise is one of the best ways to stay healthy.
Useful phrases
 exercise on a regular basis
 maintain good health
 reduce the risk of diseases
 relieve stress
 improve mental health
 lead a sedentary lifestyle
 develop long-term health problems
Question 2
Should people have regular health check-ups?
Framework
 If people do...
 If they don't...
 Conclusion
Sample Answer (Band 6)
Yes, I believe regular health check-ups are very important.
If people have routine medical check-ups, doctors can
detect diseases at an early stage and provide treatment
before the condition becomes more serious. This often
leads to a quicker recovery and lower medical costs.
However, if people avoid going for check-ups, they may
not realize they have a health problem until it is too late,
making treatment more difficult and expensive. For that
reason, I think everyone should have regular health check-
ups, even if they feel healthy.
Useful phrases
 routine medical check-ups
 detect diseases at an early stage
 provide treatment
 make a quicker recovery
 lower medical costs
 avoid going for check-ups
 health problem
 more difficult and expensive

P What's my answer? (Yes? No? Sometimes?)
E Why do I think that?
E Can I give an example or describe a habit?
L What is the result or final comment?
This keeps students from giving very short answers like:

No.
Instead, they naturally expand:
P: Not really.
E: I know it's unhealthy.
E: For example, I usually cook at home instead of
ordering takeaway.
L: So I only eat junk food once or twice a month.
