Weekly Reflective Report (Week 1)
As I reflect on my first week as an intern at the Ummeed counselling center, I feel grateful for
the opportunity to learn and grow in this field. I was excited to start this new journey, but I was
also nervous about meeting new people and learning new skills. However, my supervisor and
colleagues have been very welcoming and supportive, which has helped to ease my anxieties.
This week, I primarily observed counselling sessions and took notes on the techniques and
strategies used by the therapists. I was impressed by the therapists' ability to create a safe and
supportive space for their clients to explore their thoughts and feelings. They were able to
actively listen to their clients, provide reflective feedback, and ask open-ended questions that
helped clients gain insight into their experiences.
Throughout the week, I also had the opportunity to reflect on my personal values and beliefs
about mental health and wellness. I realized that I have a deep commitment to social justice
and equity in healthcare, and I want to ensure that my work as a therapist is inclusive and
empowering for individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Moving forward, I plan to continue observing counselling sessions and actively participating
in the counselling center's programs and initiatives. I also plan to engage in self-reflection and
seek feedback from my supervisor and colleagues to help me grow and develop as a therapist.
Overall, I am excited about this internship and look forward to the opportunities and challenges
that lie ahead.
