Tutorial Question 4
A water supply project in involves the construction of equipment foundation, underground water
tank, elevated water tank, pump house, pipelines and access road. Take off complete the work
items quantities using measurement sheet format for the Holding Tank foundation (Drawing
number CEQ/09/002) and provide work items description, and code number. Use the taking off
format and specification below.

Specifications for the measurement of works:


As a Civil Engineer responsible for works measurement, you are tasked to take off quantities for
the cost estimate of the structure.
The specification notes for the measurement of works are as follows:
EARTHWORKS
• Excavation is taken for foundation and in material other than top soil. Selected excavated
material is used for backfilling, and surplus excavated material is carted away as disposal.
Hardcore filling material is imported natural material.
• Preparation of excavated surface for footing construction is required.
CONCRETE WORKS
• Provision of Concrete ‘Designed concrete’ mix, strength C12/15 and 20 mm aggregate is
to be used for blinding concrete, and 50mm thickness of blinding concrete is to be provided,
• Concrete mix ‘Designed concrete’, Strength RC25/30 and 20 mm aggregate for structural
reinforced concrete is to be provided for the foundation.
• Fair finish formwork is to be used and Reinforcement to be other stated material (mild steel
bars),
STRUCTURAL METAL WORKS
• Columns and main beams are classified as fabrication of main frame, and the rest are
classified as other members,
• Permeant site bolt, diameter 25 mm is to be used for the elections of members,
• Sand blasting and spraying of members are required for treatment,

Using taking off method, CESMM4 and the above specification notes,
(a) Provide taking off list for the construction of the structure,

(b) Take off quantities in (a) above and provide description, unit and the code number for each
work item. Make all other necessary assumptions and sketches for the taking off.
