4 The point (0,-3) lies in /on
(a) First quadrant (b) y-axis (c) second quadrant (d) None of these
5 If the coordinates of two points are P(-2,3) and Q(-3,5) then (ordinate of P)-

7 If a < 0 and b > 0 then the point (a, b) lies in quadrant :
(a) III (b) I (c) IV (d) II
8 The signs of abscissa and ordinate of a point in quadrant IV are
a) ( - , - ). b) (+, +). c) ( - , +). d) (+, - )
9 The points (other than the origin) for which the abscissa is equal to the ordinate lie in
a) quadrants I and III. b) quadrant I only. c) quadrant III only
d) quadrants II and IV
10 Ordinate of a point is positive in
a) quadrant II only. b) quadrant I and II
c) quadrant IV and III. d) quadrant I only
In the following questions a statement of assertion (A) is followed by a statement of reason
(R). Mark the correct choices as (a) Both assertion (A) and reason (R) are true and reason
(R) is the correct explanation of assertion(A) (b)Both assertion (A) and reason (R) are true
but reason (R) is not the correct explanation of assertion (A) (c )Assertion is true but
reason is false (d)Assertion is false but reason is true
11. Assertion: The points (-3,5) and (5,-3) are at different positions in the coordinate
plane.
Reason: The position of (x,y) in the Cartesian plane is different from the position of (y, x).
12. Assertion : If x = 2k – 1 and y = k is a solution of the equation 3x – 5y – 7 = 0, then
the value of k is 10.
Reason: A linear equation in two variables has infinitely many solutions.
Short and long answer type questions:
1. A point moves 3 units left and 4 units up from the origin. Write its coordinates. Which
quadrant does it lie in?
2. Plot any four points such that: (i) Two points lie in Quadrant II.
(ii) One point lies on the x-axis. (iii) One point lies on the y-axis.
[Link] whether the following pairs of points are mirror images with respect to the x-
axis: (i) (4, 5) and (4, –5)
(ii) (–3, 2) and (3, 2)
4. Draw and label the Cartesian plane showing all four quadrants and mark the points:
A(2,3), B(–4,5), C(–3,–2), D(5,–1).
5. Are the points A(1, 2), B(3, 6) and C(5, 10) collinear? Explain without plotting them.
6. Using the origin as one vertex, plot: (i) An equilateral-looking triangle.
(ii) A triangle with one vertex in Quadrant I and another in Quadrant III.
7. In which quadrant or which axis the following points lie : (6,2), (–2,3); (0,0); (0,–6); (–
7,0); (–4,–5); (3,–4) .
CASE STUDY BASED QUESTIONS:
1 Reema has a 10 m 10 m kitchen garden attached to her kitchen. She divides it into a 10 10
grid and wants to grow some vegetables and herbs used in the kitchen. She puts some soil
and manure in that and sows a green chilly plant at A, a coriander plant at B and a tomato
plant at C.
Her friend Kusum visited the garden and praised the plants grown there. She pointed out that
they seem to be in a straight line. See the below diagram carefully and answer the following
questions :
1. Write the coordinates of the points A, B, and C taking the 10 10 grid as coordinate axes.
By distance formula or some other formula, check whether the points are collinear.
2 In Figure, LM is a line parallel to the y - axis at a distance of 3 units.
2. What are the coordinates of the points P, R and Q?
What is the difference between the abscissa of the points L and M?
