NSTP 1

NSTP National Service Training Program

●​ Incoming first year level students of any baccalaureate degree program or of at least two
(2) year TVET programs in public and private educational institutions and enterprises
shall be required to complete one (1) of the
●​ NSTP components as a requisite for graduation, in accordance with RA 9163.
●​ The NSTP shall be undertaken for two (2) semesters, credited for three (3) units per
semester.

Students can choose which of the three components they want to participate in, based on their
interests and skills.

The program aimed at enhancing civic consciousness and defense preparedness in the youth
by developing the ethics of service and patriotism while undergoing training in any of the three
(3) program components which are specially designed to enhance the youth's active
contribution to the general welfare of the country

COMPONENTS:

CWTS Civil Welfare Training Service

●​ refers to programs or activities contributory to the general welfare and the betterment of
life for the members of the community or the enhancement of its facilities, especially
those devoted to improving health, education, environment, entrepreneurship, safety,
recreation, and morals of the citizenry.

LTS Literary Training Services

ROTC Reserve Officer's Training Corps

Phases of NSTP

●​ Students enrolled in the first semester of their first year shall undergo a common module
phase for 25 hours training period. Subjects covered are Citizenship training, drug
education, disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM), environmental protection,
and other national security concerns. The concepts of Community Development is also
part of the formation phase.
●​ At the end of the course, the students shall demonstrate active participation and
involvement in the community through the CAPSTONE service-learning experiences and
project proposals intended to uplift the different dimensions of development in the
community.
Module 1

Historical and Legal Basis of the NSTP

> What is written in the Constitution?

●​ Philippine Constitution provides that the defense of the state is a prime duty of the
government and the people, and in fulfillment of this duty, all citizens may be required by
law to render personal military or civil service.
●​ It further states that it is the duty of the citizen to contribute to our country's development
in the attainment and preservation of a just and orderly society.

> What does the law provide?

●​ Republic Act No. 9163 The National Service Training Program (NSTP) Act 2001
mandates all citizens, both male and female, to fulfill this civic duty.
●​ It aims to encourage the youth to become civic and/or military leaders and volunteers
whom could be called upon by the nation in case their services are needed.
●​ National Service refers to any activity that may contbute to the national security,
development and/or welfare.

The Difference of RA 9163 to previous laws is it is inclusive for both female and male unlike the
others that was just for male before.

ROTC - Reserve Officers' Training Corps

- refers to the program institutionalized under Sections 38 and 39 of RA 7077, otherwise known
as the Citizen Armed Force or the Armed Forces of the Philippines Reservist Act of 1991,
designed to provide military training to tertiary level students in order to motivate, and mobilize
them for national defense preparedness

Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS)

Literacy Training Service (LTS)

- refers to the program designed to train the students to become capable non-licensed
instructors of functional literacy and numeracy skills to school children, out-of-school youths,
and o their services of society in need of their service
