ABSTRACT

The carbon capture system involves the use of heated organic material to form a carbon rich substance -

biochar- that is able to capture and store carbon (IV) oxide emissions .The reagent sodium hydroxide has

been incorporated into the system so as to absorb any traces of carbon dioxide that might have escaped

the biochar layer ensuring optimum carbon capture. The main aim of the scientific project is to help find a

solution to carbon mitigation by use of a cost effective alternative of capturing and storing carbon

dioxide .Air pollution from a primary level has been contributed to by both domestic activities such as

combustion and small scale industries , however inferior it may seem such activities have a significant

contribution to the world's carbon footprint .These situation has led to serious impacts to the environment

and society at large i.e depletion of the ozone layer ,global warming consequently leading to climate change.

Biochar is quite popular due its remarkable ability to sequester carbon into the soil improving the soil

fertility. The ability of biochar being able to capture carbon dioxide is one that has not been largly

[Link] there is scientific backup done by various people on the aforementioned ability to adsorb

carbon dioxide through it's physical and chemical abilities .Our major source of information for this project

has been from the Internet .From the latter have we been able to conduct our research concerning the

carbon capture system. As proof for facts obtained we have conducted experiments to verify our

assumptions and the results have so far been positive .The popular test we have done is the test for

presence of carbon dioxide by use of calcium hydroxide. We immensly hope that the scientific will help in

reducing emission harmful green house gasses the likes of carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide emitted

through outlets such as chimneys.
