Example
Question
Nowadays, many people spend less time with their families than in the
past. Why is this happening? What effects can this have on
individuals and society?
Introduction
In modern society, people are spending considerably less time with their
families compared with previous generations. This is mainly due to
demanding work schedules and the increasing use of technology, and this
trend can have negative effects on family relationships and social well-
being.
Body Paragraph 1 – Why?
The main reason why people spend less time with their families is their
increasingly demanding work lives. Many employees work long hours or
have lengthy commutes, leaving them with limited time for their relatives.
For example, people who work in major cities may spend several hours
travelling to and from work each day. Another contributing factor is the
widespread use of digital devices, as people often spend their free time on
social media or entertainment platforms rather than interacting with their
family members. Consequently, opportunities for meaningful family
communication can be reduced.
Body Paragraph 2 – Effects?
This development can have several negative effects on both individuals
and society. One major consequence is weaker family relationships. When
family members rarely spend quality time together, they may become
emotionally distant from one another. For instance, parents who are
frequently busy with work may have fewer opportunities to understand
their children's problems and provide support. In the long term, this can
contribute to loneliness and a lack of social connection. At a broader level,
weaker family relationships may also reduce the sense of community and
social support within society.
Conclusion
In conclusion, demanding work commitments and excessive use of
technology are major reasons why people spend less time with their
families. This can weaken family relationships and may also have negative
consequences for social well-being.

Two-Part Question
Introduction

Body 2

⚠️Most important rule
If the question asks:
Why...?
What can be done...?
Don't write a general essay about the topic.
You need to answer:
Q1 → Why?
Q2 → What can be done?
For Band 7+, use this development chain:
Answer → Why/How → Example → Result
This is one of the easiest ways to make your ideas sufficiently developed
rather than simply listing points.
