Ready for concrete pour □
FROM TAFE NSW:
Pour Site Inspection - What to look out for
Hotspot 1 - Embedded services
The fire-rated box and fire collars are required to achieve compliance with the
National Construction Code (NCC). Check that these are installed as per the
manufacturer's requirements and are secured.
Hotspot 2 - Reinforcement chair
Check chairs are secured and supporting the reinforcement. When a chair is
knocked over, the reo drops to the bottom of the pour. This can result in a
defect in the build.
Hotspot 3 - Set outs
In concrete slabs with falls, the low points are at the floor waste. Check that
the floor wastes have been set out correctly and that they are at the right
height. These will be used as a guide to set the minimum thickness of the slab.
Hotspot 4 - Dirt and debris on formwork
Check for dirt and debris on the formwork. Dirt and debris on the formwork
will embed itself into the concrete and then be visible on the underside. This
may just cause an aesthetic issue (surface finish), but if there’s a lot of debris,
it can create voids that weaken the structure.
Hotspot 5 - Damaged formwork
Damaged formwork could cause formwork to get stuck and reduce the quality
of the finished surface. Only re-use formwork if the slab is going to be covered.
Hotspot 6 - Dirt and debris
Check for dirt or rubbish falling into the formwork when pouring columns and
slabs. If columns are poured at the same time as the slab, look out for dirt or
rubbish that can fall into the formwork.
Hotspot 7 - Temporary structures
Be aware that temporary structures may be embedded in the slab. Temporary
structures won’t be shown in the main architectural or structural drawings.
Check that temporary structures embedded in the slab are installed according
to the manufacturer’s requirements.
Hotspot 8 - Dowel connections
Check for the dowel connection between the wall and slab. Dowels are
required and essential for the stability of the building.
1 Level Down of the pour of concrete
Hotspot 1 - 100% Back propping
Check formwork is fully supported and ready for pour.
Hotspot 2 - Temporary supports
The tilt props are essential for the stability of the structure whilst the concrete
is still curing. Check temporary supports.
Hotspot 3 - Approved props
Check props supporting formwork are secured with approved pins. The
formwork engineer needs to sign off on the formwork before starting the
pour.
2 Levels down of the pour of concrete
Hotspot 1 - 100% Back Propping
2 levels down, the formwork is fully supported on a slab that has been poured.
100% back propping.
3 Levels down of the pour of concrete
Hotspot 1 - 50% Back Propping
Formwork stripped, but the slab is still 50% back propping.
