1. Why do wee feel a cooling effect when we rub sanitizer on our hands?
a. Due to presence of water
b. Due to evaporation of alcohol
c. Due to condensation
2. The glasses of spectacles become foggy when we breathe out on glasses.
What is the reason ?
a. Water droplets from our mouth gets evaporated on the glasses.
b. water vapour from our mouth gets condensed on the glasses.
c. water from the atmosphere freezes on glasses.
d. water from the atmosphere turns into water vapour
3. Assertion (A): Dew drops are formed on leaves on a cold morning.
Reason (R): Water vapour in the surrounding gets condensed and turns
into liquid state.
4. Assertion (A):The water vapour in the air condenses to form tiny droplets
of water, which appear as clouds.
Reason ( R) : Many tiny water droplets come together and fall down as rain,
hail and snow.
5. Assertion (A) : An ice – cream kept outside the refrigerator gets melted.
Reason (R ): The process of melting involves cooling.
6. Mention few conditions that affect the process of evaporation.
7. Suppose you want to dry your school uniform quickly. Would spreading it
near a heater help you ? If yes how?
8. Soon after rain, water puddles appear in the playground. What happens to
these after sometime?
9. Which of the two- water in an earthen pot or water in a stainless-steel pot
will give cold water after being left for sometime ?
10. Suggest possible reasons explaining the appearance of water droplets on
the outer surface of the glass tumbler containing water and ice cubes.
11. Define humidity. What is the relation between humidity and evaporation
of water?
12. If you blow air after wetting one hand with water and leave the other
hand dry, which hand feels cooler? Give reason.
13. Give reasons
a. Clothes dry faster on windy day.
b. After washng the utensils, water remains on the surface of utensils and
after somtime it disappears .
14. State the name of the process for each of the following.
i) Water drops appear on the outer surface of a glass containing cold water.
ii) Steam rising from wet clothes while they are ironed.
iii) Fog appearing on a cold winter morning.
iv) Blackboard dries up after wiping it.
v) Steam rising from a hot pan when water is sprinkled on it.
15. Case based question.
During the daytime, all the air surrounding us gets heated. This warm air
provides heat for the evaporation of water from all open surfaces of water. As
a result, water vapour gets continuously added to the air. However, the
evaporation of water is a slow process. In sunlight, evaporation takes place
faster. Take two identical plates. Pour equal amount of water in each of the
plate. Place one of the plates in sunlight and keep the other in shade as
shown in the figure. Observe the two plates after every 15 minutes. You will
observe that water from the plate kept under sunlight disappeared first and
faster than the one kept under the shade.
Q1. What is evaporation?
Q2. Water kept in sunlight gets heat from sun and is evaporated. But how
does water kept under the shade also get evaporated? Explain.
Q3. Which one evaporates faster – water in a plate or in a bottle cap?
