Individual Self-Reflection

Part 1: Self Examination

I have learned so many things in my life as a leader. First, A culture of peace is a concept that
balances out conflict resolution techniques like collaboration, conversation, reconciliation, and
negotiation. It opposes violence and is a continuous process, which is another thing. Therefore,
everyone must participate. It is a choice since it has to do with daily choices and requires self-
awareness. Furthermore, a culture of peace involves communicating goals, beliefs, and attitudes
to avoid confrontations. Additionally, it is used to practice acceptance, tolerance, mediation,
harmony, peace education, and human rights education.
The inner team works as a mediator and mentor in the development of a dialogical self,
assisting in the resolution of internal disputes and obtaining answers. Good or negative self-
awareness can be cultivated with the support of inner team members. However, we must
maintain an internal balance. My inner team members must be known to me. I must therefore
begin with myself to lead for peace. The internal team leader holds great significance.
Democratic teamwork and cooperation are essential. I must listen to every member of the group,
lead, create objectives, mentor, and inspire others. Ultimately, I must take responsibility for my
actions and make judgments. Along with organizing, mediating, and facilitating, the leader must
lead.
Perfectionism does not mean being whole or complete. It is the never-ending process of
individuation or the increasing self-awareness of the person and society. Therefore, "not to be
perfect, but to be complete," according to Jung. By pursuing perfection more intensely, we feed
our negative side. Wholeness is the ideal condition in which aspects of our unconscious come to
light and harmoniously mesh with our innate qualities as individuals. The ego must then enter the
self and become expressed and realized. As a result, self-development is crucial, and improving
one's quality of life requires understanding how to live. I have to acknowledge my character's
mistakes, strengths, and flaws. Reconciliation is based on accepting one's previous transgressions
and errors. since I am called upon to finish it. Being entire or individualized can promote high
levels of self-development and assist others in presenting a uniform or true image of themselves.
I take this statement as a lesson. I must accept my experiences, grow from them, and continue to
live my life to the fullest.
Nonviolent communication is a language of life, and creating a connection with another person.
Additionally, it is an effective tool for societal transformation, relationship improvement,
personal healing, and international diplomacy. After we establish a connection with one another
and ourselves, it might facilitate the expression of our emotions. Two-way nonviolent
communication involves four strategies: observation, feelings, wants, and requests. We must be
honest in our communication and allow others to feel the same way about what we say. By
communicating nonviolently, we can promote peace. It brings about transformative shifts in our
lives, including in the areas of interpersonal relationships, education and learning, family and
parenting, personal development, and healing. It may also alter social interactions.
The culture of peace is very important in every society. We have to preserve and practice it
every day as individuals and as a community. Because it includes attitude, behaviors, and values.
This culture of peace helps to promote understanding, trust, caring, faith, values, effective
responses to each other, and effective listening. As a means of fostering unity within a group and
as a means of promoting peace, culture is essential. The notion of what is just, fair, fair, and
moral in a society is also a part of culture. I must strike a balance between culture and many
leadership philosophies in my role as a leader. We can express our identities and the systems that
our group uses by using the values and structure that culture gives us. Culture and its ideals are
essential to society. since it can convey who we are, what we are doing, and how we relate to
other people.
Culture can be a complicated system or circumstance. But we have to learn it and teach the next
generation. We will find it impossible to negotiate and achieve reconciliation if we are ignorant
of culture and values. Conflict has so arisen due to culture. It also influences our interpretation of
events and conflict. Our actions and mindsets are shaped by culture. Building peace requires us
to have common ideals within a culture. Therefore, we must appreciate and comprehend one
another. It is a method for establishing justice and peace.
I have learned tools of conflict analysis, the 3Ps, the who, what, and how of conflict, and
conflict mapping. Using conflict analysis tools is a way to look at conflict from several angles.
Understanding and appreciating peace, or the necessity of a peaceful coexistence without
violence and conflict, is crucial. Engaging in interfaith discussions fosters mutual cultural
understanding and a tranquil lifestyle. Individuals' roles in groups and conflict resolution are
something we need to understand. Identifying the root cause of conflict is crucial. But why is
there conflict in the community, and who are the aggravating parties, are questions we must ask
ourselves.
As a result, we need to think beyond just comprehending the problem and its solutions.
As leaders, we must include those who are being harmed by the dispute in addition to ourselves
while analyzing it.
Moreover, I have learned about the five types of power. Power is essential. It is to support others
during events and disputes before persuading others to take action. As a result, understanding
power and how to use it is essential. Thus, it may be the catalyst for disputes. Power is a means
of defending our lives. Positional power is determined by the place or role that a person holds in
society. Power in relationships: Power is a necessary component of partnerships. The power of
force comes from both physical prowess and coercive methods. Power of status: In a community,
social standing and material wealth are intertwined. Group power: This phrase describes an
individual's power within a group.
Peacebuilding is actions taken to resolve or prevent conflict and it explores the reasons behind
conflict and then supports societies and communities without restoring to violence. It is also a
collaborative and long-term process. It is also a way of reconciliation. To build peace,
negotiation is necessary. Every day, we have to bargain and speak with one another. We
communicated verbally as a result. Four fundamental principles of negotiation must be kept in
mind when engaging in negotiations: separate the individuals from the issue, concentrate on
interests, create opportunities for mutual advantage, and insist on applying impartial or mutually
agreeable standards.
Meditation is a conflict resolution process in which a third-party neutral assists in resolving a
dispute between two or more other parties. It is a non-adversarial approach to conflict resolution.
It is useful for negotiation and reconciliation. And it is a tool to help us in peacebuilding.
Mediation that focuses on settlement is sometimes termed problem-solving mediation.
Mediation that focuses more on relationships is often called transformative mediation. As peace
leaders, we all are mediators. A mediator is an impartial person. A mediator is a good listener
and needs to listen to both sides. Thus, active listening helps us to reconcile. When working with
the parties, mediators are empathetic and fair. Mediators aid in the parties' idea generation. In
addition, mediators practice politics and employ sway to soften oppositional stances. It is the
answer in the long run. One strategy or intervention for promoting peace is peace and
reconciliation. Forgiveness is the first step toward reconciliation. However, it is challenging. We
must incorporate reconciliation and peace. A mediator's job is to engage in dispute situations and
help the parties or individuals communicate with one another. Conflict resolution is a method
that is used to address the conflict and experiences of the conflict. Methods depend on the level
of conflict. And each level has its own methods. Thus, experience is essential to how we see and
perceive conflict.
A negotiation is a verbally spoken debate between two or more disputants in an attempt to find a
solution to their issue. It is a communication procedure as a result. We used to expect a give-and-
take during negotiations. Mutual adjustment is the main reason for the changes that occur during
our conversations. Negotiators need to comprehend how parties will modify and reposition their
views throughout a discussion. Planning, power structures, roadblocks, and four guiding
concepts are all present in negotiations. A straightforward approach to handling disagreement is
negotiation. Forgiveness is a painful and difficult process. It comes before reconciliation. All
religions teach that forgiveness is essential. And this is the spiritual value. Forgiveness is not for
others, it is for me and my peace. Because when I forgive others, I feel free. Thus, it is freeing
myself and letting go of something to feel free and also forgetting. Moreover, it is a decision and
choice.
The role of a peace leader in empowering people and groups is essential. It helps to grow and
become successful people as individuals and groups. A peace leader's responsibility also includes
being aware of our potential. Understanding who we are and what we are capable of helps us
become more self-aware, acquire new information, and put that knowledge and talent into
practice as peace leaders. By then, we will be able to handle the issues and establish a peaceful
environment within the community. We have attempted to alter the conflict's processes,
structures, and culture, which makes peace efforts challenging. However, we require change on
several levels and it will take time. Pathfinding foresight is the ability to heal and grow
creatively with awareness. Transformation and integration can be greatly aided by learning to
heal (Spears, 1998). As a result, one of the most important qualities of a peace leader is healing.
It emphasizes the capacity to guide and support others via generosity, understanding, empathy,
and compassion. In addition to meeting the physical requirements of their team members, a
servant leader must recognize the importance of attending to their emotional and spiritual needs.
Healing can create a secure and supportive environment that welcomes open communication and
listens intently to the struggles and concerns of others. It means providing guidance, motivation,
and support to help others overcome obstacles and achieve personal growth.
Trauma is crucial for peacebuilding because traumatized individuals struggle to regulate their
emotions, have anger management problems that lead to conflict, and generally do not operate
properly. We must be mindful of horrific experiences that were brought on by seemingly little
details. Because violence is persistent, healing is both crucial and challenging. We require a safe
space to reflect on the past when we are mending. Thus, the healing aspect of psychosocial
assistance is essential. Resistance is an essential skill that is needed for a leader. It is the
changing perspectives, understanding, and practice. Through resistance, a leader becomes a good
leader because it is experienced for a leader. And it supports to overcome the struggles in life. If
we do not have resistance, we cannot handle the emotional barriers. Because it is a strong self-
reflection and servant leadership.
One of a leader's most important skills is resistance. It is the evolution of knowledge, practice,
and viewpoints. A leader gains experience via resistance, which helps them become better
leaders. Additionally, it aids in overcoming life's challenges. We are unable to overcome
emotional boundaries if we are not resisting. Since it involves servant leadership and
introspection, it is the powerful self. Another thing is system thinking. It is a technique for
comprehending and examining intricate systems and the relationships between their constituent
parts. Furthermore, it does not focus on just one component or element; rather, it considers the
system as a whole and all of its parts. It is sometimes referred to as a holistic approach since it
takes into account the larger picture and the interaction of many components within a system.
Above all is what I have learned from this peace leader course. I will continue learning and
practicing all skills and values as a peace leader. I will contribute them to my mission and my
country.

Part 2: Reflect on the following questions

What Peace Leader skills do you still need to develop?
I still need to develop some skills as a peace leader. These are empathy, conflict analysis,
reconciliation, coaching, holistic listening, pathfinding foresight, and system thinking.
Because empathy is a skill and ability to put myself in the other person’s shoes. Second, to
develop conflict analysis, I will focus on people in the conflict and practice using the 3 P’s, the
who, what, and how of conflict, and then conflict mapping tools. I am weak in asking questions
to know the main causes of the conflict, and who are the actors in the conflict. Third, for
reconciliation, I need to forgive others and heal myself and others. This is a dialogue process
and journey. Thus, I need to reflect on how I build peace. Another thing is coaching skills. I
have to practice more to have confidence as a coach. I have to be a person who can help others to
be better. I will need to listen with open heart, empathy, and love. Also, I will need to give
effective feedback because accepting ourselves makes changes in life.
Then, I still need to develop holistic listening skills. Effective peace leaders must be able to
listen well. Because listening entails more than just hearing what someone has to say; it also
entails actively conversing with them, learning their perspectives, and appreciating their
differences. A peace leader may create an environment of open communication, collaboration,
and negotiation amongst parties in conflict by really listening to others. Additionally, listening
helps a leader fully comprehend the underlying causes of conflict. It enables a peace leader to
promote inclusive decision-making and take into account many points of view. An effective
peace leader must therefore have the essential ability to listen. Holistic listening is listening to
understand the whole of others what they are saying and seeing the big picture. It is a skill of a
peace leader. Because it includes respectful listening, empathetic listening, and generative
listening. And it helps to promote discernment and influential persuasion to become a leader.
Another skill is pathfinding foresight. It is an aware healing and creative learning. I need to
nurture and develop it. I need to focus on opening the mind, the heart, and the will for aware
healing. Then for creative learning, I need to focus on insights, imagination, and intellect. To
open will we have to stop the voice of fear. And it is letting go of our judgment. When we have
an injury in our mind and heart, we need to heal by being aware and empathetic. I still need to
develop for that.

● What attitudes do you still need to change as you grow as a Peace Leader?
For me, encouraging is still I need to change as a peace leader. Because I used to encourage
people by looking at the situation and people. As a peace leader, I have to encourage all people
in my community or all my followers. I am a person to helps other people around me and
encourages them to be more successful than me. Another one is positive thinking. It is very
important for me. When I have obstacles or conflicts, I used to think first about others
negatively. However, I need to think first positively. I must know the reason, sources of the
conflict, and the others’ emotions and troubles. I have to avoid the argument with others and be
aware of myself.

● What self-care techniques will you continue to use moving forward as a Peace Leader.
As a peace leader, I will try to develop self-care because it is very important. It is loving myself
and looking after myself. As techniques, I will use some techniques for that. I will assess what
are my needs, and create plans to change. When I have stress or pressure, I will reduce my stress
because it leads me to neglect my physical, spiritual, and mental health. Thus, I will think about
how to calm down when I have stress. Another way is spending time with friends, families, and
people who make laugh to me. It can help to reduce stress. Moreover, I will take time to read
books. Reading is learning about how to take care of mental and physical health. It makes feeling
calm and having peace of mind. Then, I will meditate every day to know myself and change
from negative to positive as a leader. Thus, I will focus on what is true and important because
self-care is important and it is self-esteem and self-value. Additionally, I will take small breaks
and write a journal every day to continue moving forward as a peace leader.

● How might you continue to develop your skills as one who listens and reflects back?

● Given that you are still a Peace Leader in training, identify an expert you would work
with as a Peace Leader (real or theoretical) in the future. This should be someone skilled in
conflict resolution, an expert in mediation, or other leaders.

Part 3: Evaluation of my Group’s Work Together

I learned participating and collaborating are very important to success as a group. All members
participated actively and openly shared in the discussion and activities. It helped us gain more
knowledge and new perspectives related to peace and justice. Sharing is not giving, but it is
caring, searching for new ideas, and receiving motivation from each other. It is also building
peace. However, we have to be patient in group work because we are not in the same workplace
and township and then not living style. Therefore, we need to understand each other and adjust to
meet each other to do the project. Collaboration is building trust, and achieving fruitful success
together. But we need to manage time. Time management skills are essential for individual and
group development, and a great leader. Sharing in class and group work is the best for us. It is
very useful because we got new insights from each other.

Part 4: Practicum Plans

I am planning to complete my practicum in my congregation first. We will have a gathering
program for all junior sisters and Jubilee sisters in May 2024. I will do it to my sisters.
Moreover, there are formation houses in my community. Thus, I will do my practicum for
candidates in my congregation.
