Tutorial 5 (Three Phase Transformers)

1. A Balanced STAR Load is connected to the secondary of a Three Phase Star Delta
Transformer, as shown in the diagram below. The Secondary Line Voltages are:
Eab = 415∠-30° V, Ebc = 415∠-150° V and Eca = 415∠90° V. The balanced Phase
Impedances are all: Zan = Zbn = Zcn = 2 + j1.5 Ω. The transformer is connected to the
supply via a Feeder which has Feeder Impedances ZF = 3.0 + j7.5 Ω.

Determine:
(i) The Transformer Secondary PHASE Currents Ia, Ib and Ic;
(ii) The Transformer Input LINE currents IA, IB, and IC;
(iii) The Feeder Per Phase Complex Power;
(iv) The TOTAL Per Phase input Complex Power to the System
(v) The Input LINE Voltages (Magnitude and Angle) EAB, EBC and ECA.

2. An Unbalanced STAR Load is connected to the secondary of a Three Phase Delta Star
Transformer, as shown in the diagram below. The Secondary Line Voltages are:
Eab = 415∠0° V, Ebc = 415∠-120° V and Eca = 415∠120° V. The Unbalanced Phase
Impedances are: Zan = 4 + j3 Ω, Zbn = 12 – j5 Ω and Zcn = 10 + j4.5 Ω.
Determine:
(i) The Neutral Current In;
(ii) The Transformer Primary PHASE Currents IAB, IBC and ICA;
(iii) The Transformer Input LINE currents IA, IB, and IC;
(iv) The TOTAL input power to the Transformer in kilowatts (kW);
