Speaker 1 — Kyra
Good morning everyone. We are excited to present EcoNest, a smart and sustainable home
called “The House That Cools, Lights and Powers Itself.” Our idea begins with one simple
question: instead of using more machines to fight heat and darkness, what if the building itself
could do most of that work? EcoNest connects to SDG 7, SDG 11, and SDG 13 because it
supports clean energy, sustainable cities, and climate action.
Speaker 2
Most conventional buildings trap heat and depend heavily on air-conditioning and artificial
lighting, especially in hot countries like India. This leads to higher electricity bills for families and
more carbon emissions because much of that electricity still comes from fossil fuels. EcoNest
responds to this problem by redesigning the house itself so it works more naturally and
efficiently.
Speaker 3
EcoNest uses passive cooling to stay comfortable without relying too much on air-conditioners.
It has cross-ventilation, jaali screens, a central courtyard, and a white roof that reflects heat
instead of absorbing it. Together, these features help the house stay cooler naturally from the
start.
Speaker 4
Another important feature is the vertical gardens on the outside and inside of the house.
Outside, they reduce heat by shading the walls and cooling the surrounding air through
transpiration, while inside they improve air quality and create a calmer, healthier living space. So
EcoNest turns ordinary walls into surfaces that cool, clean, and support a better home
environment.
Speaker 5
EcoNest also uses a mirror-based daylight redirection system. Sunlight enters through the
skylight, courtyard, and windows, and mirrors bounce that light deeper into the inner rooms, so
less electric lighting is needed during the day. These mirrors also help indoor plants receive the
sunlight they need, so the light system and the vertical gardens work together as one smart
design.
Speaker 6
EcoNest does not just save energy; it can also generate and manage it more intelligently. The
cool roof includes solar panels that provide clean electricity for fans, pumps, and night lighting,
while a rainwater harvesting tank collects roof runoff to water the vertical gardens. As a future
upgrade, EcoNest can also use compact vertical-axis wind turbines on rooftops or upper floors
of suitable high-rise buildings, because city winds change direction often and VAWTs can catch
wind from any direction. They are also quieter, compact, and practical for urban spaces. To
extend the idea beyond the house, we can also use porous asphalt roads, which let rainwater
soak into the ground instead of flowing away as runoff. So EcoNest becomes a complete
climate-smart system that combines solar, wind, and water management.
Speaker 7
Our physical model helps make all these ideas easy to understand. The labels show the green
walls, courtyard, jaali screens, solar roof, skylight, rainwater tank, and mirror light path, and we
can use a torch and mirrors to demonstrate how sunlight reaches the inner room. We can also
show the wind turbine and porous road ideas, proving that EcoNest is practical as well as
creative.

EcoNest is not just a school project — it is a green housing startup idea based on one clear
promise: lower bills, healthier homes, and a smaller impact on the planet. Our project shows that
sustainability does not have to be expensive or complicated; it can be built into the way a home
is designed from the beginning. Our target customers include middle-income families, schools,
housing societies, apartment complexes, builders, and green housing developers who want
better comfort and lower electricity use. Their common problems are rising power bills,
overheated rooms, too much dependence on artificial lighting, and concern about pollution and
climate change, and EcoNest answers those problems with passive cooling, daylight redirection,
vertical gardens, solar power, and water-saving features. As a business, EcoNest can offer
design packages for new homes and affordable retrofit kits for existing homes and schools,
including vertical garden panels, mirrors, jaali screens, cool-roof paint, and rainwater systems.
In the future, the idea can also expand through partnerships with builders, apartment societies,
schools, and even government-supported green housing projects. Our tagline says it best: “The
house that cools, lights and powers itself”.
Speaker 9
To conclude, EcoNest shows that the smartest home is not the one with the most machines, but
the one that works with nature. By combining passive cooling, daylighting, vertical gardens,
clean energy, and water-smart design, EcoNest supports SDG 7, SDG 11, and SDG 13 in a
practical way. EcoNest is our message to the future: don’t just build a house — build a house
that helps heal the planet.
