Project Action Plan

Project Title: Operation Plastic-Free Bins: A 4-Week Homeroom Waste Segregation Drive
Institutions: Tanauan School of Craftsmanship and Home Industries, Tanauan, Leyte
RATIONALE

Operation Plastic-Free Bins: A 4-Week Homeroom Waste Segregation Drive is born out of an urgent need to address a silent footprint left
behind in the bustling hallways of the Tanauan School of Craftsmanship and Home Industries (TSCHI). Every day, plastic bottles and
aluminum cans are mixed indiscriminately into regular classroom garbage bins. When recyclable materials are discarded alongside organic
waste, the school loses more than just resources, it loses an opportunity to teach. This lack of proper segregation places an unnecessary
burden on Leyte’s municipal waste management system and contradicts the very values of craftsmanship, discipline, and community care
that TSCHI stands for. As an institution dedicated to honing hands-on skills, TSCHI believes that true craftsmanship includes taking pride in
one’s environment, shifting student mindsets from passive disposal to active stewardship.

Real, lasting change rarely happens through strict policing; it happens when students are inspired and actively engaged. To instill a culture of
proper waste segregation and environmental responsibility, this 4-week initiative gamifies recycling through a healthy, high-energy
homeroom competition. By installing dedicated, upcycled recycling bins in all participating classrooms and tracking progress through a digital
weekly leaderboard, the project turns a daily chore into a unifying team effort. Over the course of thirty days, students will compete not just
for a simple, motivating prize, but for the pride of seeing their homeroom lead the school in ecological mindfulness. Ultimately, this drive is
not just about keeping classrooms clean for a month; it is about proving to the student body that their individual actions have a measurable,
positive impact, establishing a permanent culture of recycling that diverts waste from local landfills and shapes conscious, responsible
citizens.
