BPSC INTERVIEW: A SCIENTIFIC APPROACH TO CHECK YOUR

PERSONALITY

Interview is not a test of knowledge, it is for your personality check only. Now the
question may arise in your mind that if interview is not a test of knowledge then why
fact based questions are being asked in interview. Lets understand the whole
interview process with detail analysis.

Major types of question being asked in BPSC interview


1. FACTS BASED QUESTIONS
2. OPINION BASED QUESTIONS

1. FACTS BASED

Let’s understand that why fact based questions are being asked in BPSC Interview
and how facts based questions check your personality.

Let's understand 5 cases of fact based questions.

(a) You reply the answer if u know the correct answer. Question over. Naturally
your confidence go up here.
(b) You reply wrong answer even if you don't know the answer and try to misguide
the board. Bluff, lie, vagueness in personality
(c) You take permission of the board and then reply if u know half answer.
Courtesy, respect, clarity.
(d) You say sorry if you don’t know the answer. Honesty, transparency
(e) You say sorry and ask to board member that i will try to know about the same.
Honesty, transparency, eagerness, learning aptitude.

In situation (d) and (e) the question may be over or the members of the board may
tell you the correct answer of that question.

(i) You say the board member thank you. Kindness, gratitude, gratefulness.
(ii) You don't say the board member thank you, thankless person, ungrateful.
Example:-
A fact based question like Exact area of Bihar is being asked by the board which is
94163 sq km.

Note-
If board ask 4 to 5 facts based questions in a row and you could not answer any
question then the board check your personality in following manner.

Check your facial expressions.


Your body language.
Your voice pitch and tone.

These things give them clear idea of your personality and your level of confidence.
So even in such cases believe in yourself and behave natural and confident.

2. OPINION BASED

Like facts based question you have no option to skip opinion based question. Reply
of your opinion is must. If same question is asked from 10 people, then they all can
think about the same question in 10 different ways and suggest their 10 different
opinions/ideas.
No opinion is bad if you have facts and good arguments to justify your opinion. Here
justified opinion means.

Secular.
Not prejudiced.
As per rule of law.
Based on conscience.
As per constitution.
Moral.
Let’s understand 2 cases of opinion based question.

(a) Opinion based question asked and your answer is sorry sir i don't know. This is
the worst part of your personality. Shyness, irresponsibility, unaccountability,
inactiveness.
So never skip such questions. Express your explicit opinion whatever the opinion is.

(b) Opinion based question asked and u replied.


These three situation may arise.
(i) Opinion given by you is same as opinion of the board. Question over.
(ii) Opinion given by you may vary from the opinion of the board. Board accept your
opinion and don't put cross question. Question over.
(iii) Opinion given by you is not accepted by the board and board try to impose their
opinion on you by argument and cross questions.

In this case 3 situation may arise.

(a) You be firm on your opinion with showing courtesy with the opinion of the board.
Firmness, good decision maker, courtesy, tolerance
(b) You change your earlier opinion under pressure of the board. No leadership
qualities, no decision making ability.
(c) You be firm on your opinion with heated argument with the board members.
Rigidity, intolerance, disrespect.

Important
1. Don't be proactive.
2. Be a good listener.
3. Don't shout in interview hall.
4. Speak in a manner that members can hear u properly.
5. Don't speak fast.
