Program Overview
This six-week program introduces beginners to essential computer skills and four widely used software
applications: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, and CorelDraw. Each session combines
short demonstrations with hands-on practice, building toward a final project that draws on multiple programs.

Course Goals
• Build confidence navigating a computer and its operating system
• Create, format, and print professional documents in Word
• Organize data and perform basic calculations in Excel
• Design and deliver a simple presentation in PowerPoint

Computer Fundamentals & Introduction to MS Word
Session Length: 2.5 – 3 hours

Learning Objectives
• Identify basic computer hardware and understand the desktop environment
• Operate a mouse and keyboard confidently
• Create, save, and organize files and folders
• Navigate the MS Word interface and format simple text

Part 1 — Computer Fundamentals (45 min)


• Parts of a computer: monitor, CPU, keyboard, mouse
• Powering on/off; understanding the desktop, icons, and taskbar
• Mouse and keyboard skills: click, double-click, drag, right-click
• Opening, closing, resizing, and switching between windows
• Creating folders, saving files, and locating saved work

Part 2 — Introduction to MS Word (90 min)


• Opening Word and understanding the Ribbon and toolbar
• Typing, editing, and selecting text
• Formatting text: font, size, bold, italic, underline, alignment
• Saving and naming a document correctly
