Confucius sounds perfect... but is it always true?

Good morning, respected teacher and my dear friends.

Today I want to explore a question many of us will face soon: should we follow our passion,
or choose a safe, secure career?

When we follow our passion, work doesn't feel like a burden. Steve Jobs once said, "The
only way to do great work is to love what you do." History is full of examples — J.K. Rowling
faced rejection after rejection, but her passion for storytelling kept her going until Harry
Potter became a global phenomenon. Passion fuels creativity, persistence, and genuine
happiness.

But let's be realistic. Passion doesn't always pay the bills. A safe career — like engineering,
medicine, or a stable government job — offers financial security, structure, and peace of
mind, especially in uncertain economic times. As the saying goes, "Passion doesn't pay the
rent, but a paycheck does." People have to support families and thus cannot afford the risk
of an unstable path.

So, is it really an either-or choice? I don't think so. The smartest approach is to find a
middle ground. We can choose a stable career while nurturing our passion as a skill, a side
pursuit, or a long-term goal. Take the example of Ratan Tata — he built a strong, secure
foundation in business, and used that very platform to pursue his deeper passions,
whether in philanthropy or innovation. Similarly, many doctors and engineers today
balance their profession with passions like writing, music, or social work on the side.
Security doesn't have to kill passion — it can actually give passion the wings and the
resources to grow safely.

In conclusion, passion gives us purpose, while security gives us stability. The real key is not
choosing one over the other, but building the courage and the plan to eventually merge the
two. As they say, "Don't just find a job, build a life you don't need a vacation from."
