Research Question 1: To what extent do perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use
predict TESOL postgraduate students’ behavioural intention to use and self-reported
actual use of ChatGPT in academic writing?

4.3.1 Survey Findings


The survey results indicate that participants generally held positive perceptions of
ChatGPT. Overall, 85% of respondents agreed or strongly agreed that ChatGPT was
useful for academic writing, while 81% found it easy to use. Furthermore, 84% reported
that they intended to continue using ChatGPT in future writing tasks, and 76% indicated
that they used the tool regularly when completing academic assignments.

When examining the predictive relationships, the findings suggest that perceived
usefulness had a stronger influence on participants’ intention to use ChatGPT than
perceived ease of use. In other words, students who considered ChatGPT beneficial for
their academic writing were more likely to express a strong intention to continue using it.

4.3.2 Interview Findings


The interview findings largely supported the survey results. Most participants described
ChatGPT as a valuable writing assistant that helped them generate ideas, improve
language accuracy, and save time during the writing process.

“I use ChatGPT mainly to brainstorm ideas and improve my wording. It makes writing
much faster.” (P3).

Several participants also highlighted the simplicity of using ChatGPT. They noted that
the interface was intuitive and required little time to learn, although a few mentioned that
obtaining high-quality responses depended on asking clear and specific questions.

Overall, participants expressed a strong willingness to continue using ChatGPT because


they perceived it as both useful and easy to use.

4.3.3 Summary
The survey and interview findings converged in showing that participants held positive
perceptions of ChatGPT. While the survey demonstrated that a large majority viewed the
tool as useful and intended to continue using it, the interviews explained these findings
by illustrating how ChatGPT supported idea generation, language refinement, and writing
efficiency.
