Topic: Your Philosophical Heritage

As I reflect on what I learned in the topic Your Philosophical Heritage,” I realized that
educational philosophy is about the different beliefs of teachers when they teach their students.
In our book and report, there are seven philosophies that were discussed, which are Essentialism,
Progressivism, Perennialism, Existentialism, Behaviorism, Linguistic Philosophy, and
Constructivism. The book also mentioned that the other philosophies are assigned as research
work. While reading and listening to the discussion, I slowly understand that every philosophy
has its own purpose and every teacher have different ways of helping students learn. I didn’t
expect that there are many ideas behind the way teachers teach inside the classroom.
Out of all the philosophies, the ones that I understand more are Progressivism, Existentialism,
and Constructivism. I think I like these three because I can somehow relate them to what I
experience in school. In Progressivism, what I understand is that learning is not only about
memorizing lessons or listening to the teacher the whole time. Students also need to experience
the lesson because it helps us understand it better. There are times when our teacher gives group
activities or asks us to solve a situation instead of only giving notes. I notice that I remember
those activities more than the lessons that I only memorize before a quiz. Even if I forget some
definitions, I still remember what we did in class because I was part of it. For me, it makes
learning easier to understand.
In Existentialism, the way I understand it is that every student is different. We don’t all learn the
same way and we don’t all want the same things in life. I think the teacher should guide the
students, but not decide everything for them. I can relate to this because there are times when our
teacher asks us what we think first before giving the correct answer. Honestly, I don’t like
answering right away because I’m always thinking my answer is wrong. Most of the time I wait
for my classmates first. But after doing it many times, I become a little comfortable sharing my
own ideas. Even if my answer is not correct, I still learn from it. I think this philosophy is trying
to tell us that learning is also about knowing yourself and not being afraid to think on your own.
For Constructivism, I understand that students should not only wait for the teacher to explain
everything. We also need to put effort if we want to learn. Sometimes our teacher asks us to
search first or read something before the discussion starts. To be honest, I don’t always like doing
that because sometimes I get confused and I don’t understand what I’m reading. But when the
discussion starts, I already have a small idea about the topic, so it becomes easier to follow. I also
notice that when I search for information first or talk with my classmates, I remember the lesson
longer. I think this philosophy is showing that students also have a responsibility in learning and
not only depend on the teacher.
After learning these philosophies, I realized that there is no one perfect way of teaching because
every student is different.

Topic: Formulating Your Philosophy of Education

As I reflect on this lesson about Formulating Your Philosophy of Education, I realized

that every future teacher should have their own beliefs about teaching and learning. At first, I
thought a philosophy of education is only something that teachers write because it is required in
school. But after reading this lesson, I understand that it is more personal than I expected. It is
like a guide that helps teachers decide how they will teach and how they will treat their students.
I think every teacher will have a different philosophy because we all have different experiences
and different reasons why we want to teach.
One thing that I understand from this lesson is that there is no single philosophy that fits
everyone. We learned different philosophies before, and I noticed that each one has something
good. I realized that my own philosophy does not need to follow only one philosophy. It can be a
combination of ideas that I believe are important. For me, I like the ideas from Progressivism,
Existentialism, and Constructivism because I think they help students become active in learning
and not only depend on the teacher. I also think students should have a chance to share their
ideas and learn from their own experiences.
The example in the lesson also helped me understand what a philosophy of education looks like.
Honestly, when I first saw it, I thought it was only a list of beliefs. But after reading it carefully, I
realized those beliefs affect how a teacher teaches every day. If a teacher believes every student
can learn, then I think they will become more patient with students who are having a hard time.
If a teacher believes values are important, then they will also try to show honesty, respect, and
kindness inside the classroom. I think students notice those actions even if the teacher does not
always talk about them.
I also experienced making my own philosophy of education, and honestly we did it in a rush
because of the limited time. I thought it would be easy at first, but when I started writing, I found
it difficult to think of what to write. I realized that making a philosophy of education is not about
what I want as a student. I also need to think about my future learners and what they need from
me as a teacher. There were also steps that we needed to follow, so I had to think carefully before
writing each part. It made me realize that making your own philosophy is not only about writing
good sentences. It is also about knowing the kind of teacher you want to become.
Overall, this lesson made me realize that having a philosophy of education is not only about
writing "I believe" statements. It is more about knowing what kind of teacher you want to
become and trying to follow those beliefs every day. I think it is not always easy because there
will be many challenges in teaching. But having your own philosophy gives you something to
hold on to when making decisions.

Topic: Foundational Principles of Morality and You

As I reflect on this lesson about the Foundational Principles of Morality and You, I
realized that being a teacher is not only about teaching lessons or helping students get good
grades. I think being a teacher also means becoming a good example because students also learn
from the actions of their teachers. There is a line in the lesson that says a teacher can influence
students for a long time. When I read that, I started thinking that even small actions of a teacher
might stay in the minds of students. I think that is a big responsibility.
The lesson also talks about morality. The way I understand it, morality is about knowing what is
right and what is wrong. Sometimes I think people already know if something is good or bad, but
there are still times when they choose the wrong thing because of different reasons. One example
is during quizzes or exams. I know cheating is wrong because it is unfair to others, but there are
students who still do it because they are afraid to fail. I think this lesson is reminding us that
knowing what is right is not enough. We should also try our best to do the right thing even if it is
hard.
Another thing that I understand is the idea of "Do good and avoid evil." At first, I thought this
sentence is too simple because everyone already knows it. But while reading the lesson, I
realized that this simple idea is connected to many beliefs and religions. Even if people have
different cultures or beliefs, many of them still teach almost the same thing, which is to treat
others with kindness and avoid doing bad things. I think this is something that people should
always remember because it is easy to say but not always easy to do.
The part that caught my attention is about good moral character. The lesson says that a teacher
should be human, loving, virtuous, and mature. I don't think this means teachers need to be
perfect because nobody is perfect. For me, it means teachers should always try to do what is right
and admit their mistakes if they make one. I remember one of my teachers saying sorry to our
class after making a mistake during a discussion. It was only a simple moment, but I respected
that teacher more because of being honest. I think students also notice those small actions.
This lesson also made me think about myself. There are times when I become impatient or I don't
always make the best decision. Reading this lesson reminded me that having good values is not
only important inside the classroom. It is also important in everyday life, like being honest with
other people, respecting others, and thinking first before doing something. I know these are
simple things, but sometimes they are also the hardest to do.
Overall, this lesson gave me a better understanding that teaching is more than giving knowledge
to students. A teacher's attitude, actions, and values are also part of what students learn. As a
future teacher, I know I still have many things to improve. I don't think becoming a teacher is
only about finishing a degree or passing the board exam. I think it is also about becoming a
person with good values because students will not only remember the lessons we teach.

Topic: Values Formation and You

As I reflect on this lesson about Values Formation and You, I realized that values are not
only something we learn by reading books or listening to our teachers. The way I understand it,
values become part of a person little by little through the people around them and the experiences
they have. I think this lesson is important because it made me realize that having knowledge is
different from living with good values. A person might know what is right, but if they don't
practice it, then the value is not fully developed.
One thing that I understand from this lesson is that values are both taught and caught. At first, I
only think values are taught by parents and teachers because they always tell us what is right and
wrong. But after reading this lesson, I realized that we also learn by watching other people.
Sometimes we copy what we see without even noticing it. For example, when a teacher treats
every student fairly and respectfully, students also learn to respect others. I think actions have a
bigger effect because people remember what they see more than what they only hear.
I also understand the three dimensions of values which are knowing, feeling, and doing. For me,
this part is easy to relate because there are times when I already know the right thing to do, but I
still find it hard to do it. One example is being honest. Everyone knows honesty is important, but
there are situations where telling the truth is not easy because we are afraid of the result. I think
this lesson is trying to say that values are complete only if we know them, believe in them, and
practice them in our daily life.
The part about Max Scheler's Hierarchy of Values also made me think. The way I understand it is
that some values are more important than others. Things like comfort and enjoyment are good,
but they should not become more important than truth, respect, or faith. I notice that sometimes
people focus too much on things that make them happy for a short time and forget the values that
last longer. I think this is something that is not always easy because everyone also wants to enjoy
life. But this lesson reminded me that choosing higher values helps a person become better.
Another thing that I learned is about the intellect and the will. At first I find this part a little
confusing, but after reading it again, I think the meaning is simple. The intellect helps us know
what is right, while the will helps us choose to do it. I realize that even if we already know the
right decision, it still depends on us if we will follow it or not. I think this happens in everyday
life, especially when we are tempted to do something we know is wrong.
Overall, this lesson made me realize that values formation is not something that happens in one
day. It takes time, practice, and good examples from the people around us. As a future teacher, I
think this lesson is important because students do not only learn from the lessons we teach. They
also learn from how we speak, how we treat other people, and how we act every day

Topic: Teaching as Your Vocation, Mission, and Profession

As I reflect on this lesson about Teaching as Your Vocation, Mission, and Profession, I
realized that becoming a teacher is not only about having a job after college. The way I
understand it, teaching has a bigger purpose because it is about helping other people learn and
become better. I know many people choose a course because of different reasons. Some because
of their parents, some because of financial problems, and some because they really like it. I think
no matter how we started, what is important is how we grow and accept the responsibility that
comes with it.
The lesson explained that teaching is a vocation, which means it is a calling. I am still trying to
understand this part because I know not everyone believes the same thing. But for me, I think a
calling is something that slowly becomes clear while doing it. There are times when I ask myself
if teaching is the right path for me. Sometimes I feel nervous because I know it is not an easy
profession. But after reading this lesson, I realized that maybe being a teacher is not only about
what I want. It is also about the people that I will help in the future.
I also understand that teaching is a mission. The way I see it, a mission is a responsibility that
you need to finish with your best effort. It is not only about teaching students how to read, write,
or answer exams. I think it is also about helping them become good people. I remember some of
my teachers before. Honestly, I don't remember every lesson they discussed, but I still remember
how they treated us. There was one teacher who always encouraged us even when we made
mistakes. That simple thing made me feel that learning is okay even if I don't get everything
right. I think those are the things students remember for a long time.
The lesson also says that teaching is a profession. At first I thought profession only means having
a license and finishing a degree. But after reading this lesson, I realized it also means continuing
to learn and improve yourself. I think learning does not stop after graduation because there will
always be new ideas and new ways of teaching. As future teachers, we also need to improve
ourselves little by little. I know it is not easy because studying itself is already difficult
sometimes, but I think that is part of becoming a professional.
One part that made me think is the difference between teaching as a job and teaching as a
mission. I understand why some people see teaching as a job because everyone also needs money
to live. But I think if a teacher only works for the salary, students might also notice it. I believe
students learn better when they know their teacher cares about them. Even a simple
encouragement or showing patience makes a difference. I think teaching becomes more
meaningful when you care about your students and not only about finishing the lesson.

Topic: National Competency-Based Teacher Standards or NCBTS

As I reflect on this lesson about the National Competency-Based Teacher Standards or

NCBTS, I realized that it explains the different qualities and responsibilities that teachers should
have. While listening to the report, I understood some parts, but honestly I also got confused
because each group only explained the domain assigned to them. They did not explain all the
strands under every domain, so there were some parts that I didn't fully understand. Because of
that, I only got the main idea of each domain and not all the details.
Even if I didn't understand everything, I realized that the NCBTS is like a guide for teachers. It is
showing what a teacher should do inside and outside the classroom. I noticed that the domains
are not only about teaching lessons. They also include how teachers treat students, how they
communicate with parents, and even how they continue learning in their profession. I didn't
expect that there are many things expected from teachers besides discussing the lesson every day.
The domain that I understand the most is the learning environment. The way I understand it,
teachers should make the classroom safe, fair, and comfortable so students can learn better. I
think this is important because students will not focus if they are scared or uncomfortable in
class. I remember one of my teachers who always made sure everyone had a chance to answer
and never embarrassed students who made mistakes. Because of that, our class became more
active. I think small things like that also help students enjoy learning.
I also understand the domain about personal growth and professional development. For me, this
means that teachers should not stop learning even if they are already teaching. At first I thought
that after becoming a licensed teacher, the studying part is already finished. But this lesson made
me realize that teachers also need to improve themselves because education keeps changing. I
think this is not easy because learning new things takes time, but I guess it is part of becoming a
better teacher.
Another thing that caught my attention is the community linkages. Honestly, I didn't understand
this domain that much because it was not explained clearly during the report. But based on what
I read, I think it means teachers should also know the community where their students live. I
think this makes sense because students have different backgrounds and experiences. If teachers
know those things, maybe they will also understand their students better.
Overall, this lesson made me realize that teaching is more than standing in front of the class and
explaining the lesson. There are many responsibilities that teachers need to do, and each domain
in the NCBTS is connected to becoming an effective teacher. I know I still don't fully understand
every domain because some parts were not discussed in detail, but I still learned something from
this topic. It also made me realize that becoming a teacher is not only about having knowledge in
one subject. It is also about improving yourself, understanding your students, and doing your
responsibilities the best that you can. I think as I continue studying
