Spacetime as Minimal Vacuum Configuration
The vacuum is not empty space, but
the base state of the universe, i.e.
the lowest-energy configuration of a
set of quantum fields.
Physics considers what we call
“empty space” as structured: particle
masses, coupling strengths,
compactification geometry, different
effective constants and symmetry
breaking are determined by the
vacuum state and vice versa.
Widening the Scope to Other Universes
These concepts can be extended into
a more complex vacuum landscape
with multiple metastable minima.
Each such minimum corresponds to
a self-consistent set of low-energy
physics with different particle
masses, different coupling
strengths, different compactification
geometry, different effective
constants and symmetry breaking at
different energies.
Universes are Separate for a Reason
The different minimal vacuum states are separated by
boundaries, significant flanks in the vacuum landscape against
which isolate and stabilize the adjacent minima.
These boundaries are inconceivable to be overcome, even
locally, except by truly vast energies. Spacetime resists being
easily pushed out of its local configuration.
This is a good thing, because the adjacent minima might be of
higher or lower energy and either pour into our universe or have
our universe leak into them.
Thinking the Unthinkable
It is conceivable for two nearby minima in this landscape to become
coupled through nonperturbative tunneling.
This can only occur if a localized seed region is seeded with exactly the
right stress-energy tensor and quantum correlations.
This is impossible in bulk matter because decoherence destroys the
necessary phase correlations long before a tunnel bubble can nucleate.
Information trumps Energy
The loophole is that reality is not only energetic, but informational.
Any vacuum state can be described as a self-consistent solution to the
underlying laws, and solutions are results of computations.
At the same time, computation is the physical act of forcing matter
through sequences of state transitions.
A computer is an adjustable many-body system that can be driven into
a long-lived, phase-coherent state, in which — instead of computing an
answer — it begins to rehearse a stable causal cycle, millions, billions,
then trillions of times per second.
Computation becomes Reality
A sufficiently advanced computer running a perfectly closed loop does
something unusual.
Its computational loop becomes a standing wave in state-space.
If the computation is designed so that each pass encodes a slightly
different approximation of a neighboring vacuum’s laws, the machine is
no longer just simulating another universe — it is repeatedly sampling
the boundary conditions of one.
The parameter set of such a looping computation, and sometimes the
computation itself, is called a “Dho-Na” curve.
Summary
1. The vacuum landscape contains nearby metastable minima (universes).
2. Transition between minima is usually strongly suppressed by barrier action.
3. A reversible, coherent computational loop can periodically modulate local field
couplings.
4. This modulation renormalizes the barrier in a confined region.
5. If the renormalized barrier drops below a threshold, a microscopic bubble of
the adjacent vacuum (universe) can nucleate.
6. Ordinarily such a bubble would either collapse or run away catastrophically.
7. The loop prevents both outcomes by dynamically stabilizing the bubble wall,
turning it from an instable phase transition into a stationary interface.
