Topic: “A NEW BEGINNING”
Scripture: Isaiah 43:18-19a “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am
doing a new thing!
Psalm 130:3-4; Philippians 3:13
As we have all stepped in this New Year I am sure everyone gathered here has made your own
New Year’s resolution. Like your plan for this year, your aim for this year, plan for spiritual
growth for this year or your relationship with God for this year and many more. And I also
believe there will be some who have not yet decided or made any resolution. There will also be
someone who might be thinking I have tried before but I cannot keep my promise or so and if
you are having such kind of doubt here I have a good news for us.
The good news here is that the almighty God, whom we believe, knows no impossibility because
He said in Isaiah 43:19 that He will do a new thing for all His children this year. However, for
something new to happen the old must give way (give up). In Genesis 32:24-28, the angel said to
Jacob that his name must give way for a new one. The Lord said this same thing to his
grandfather and grandmother- Abraham and Sarah, whose names were changed from Abram and
Sarai respectively. Even in the book of Acts in the life of Paul how his name was changed from
Saul in order to start a new beginning, a new chapter in his life. Therefore if we want to become
new or we want to start a new beginning we must really need to change.
So if we really want to enjoy a glorious new beginning this year, we need to give up something
or we must give up something for that, our old ways of living, our old ways of thinking, our old
ways of doing thing, especially our old ways of ungodly behavior we must give way (up) so that
we can empty ourselves and welcome the new one….. We need to change our master who
resides inside us if this master is not Jesus Christ (Christ centered). God is calling each and
everyone even today who are weary and heavy laden to come to Him because He has promised
us, He has given us the assurance that He will take care of everything, and He will make our
burden light, if we accept Him and keep His commandments (Matthew 11:28-30). The scripture
in 2 Corinthians 5:17 also reminds us the same thing, if we are in Christ then our old self is gone
forever and we are made new through Jesus Christ. All these passages keeps us reminding again
and again that we as an individual or as a believer, if we go to Christ, our old sinful life will
become a history and not only we will be forgiven but the power behind “go and sin no more”
will also become our portion like the adulterous women in John 8:11 who experienced the
forgiveness of Jesus Christ and also Jesus telling her to go and sin no more. God wants all His
followers to enjoy a new beginning in their life with joy and be victorious in Him because He
doesn’t want any person to perish.
So my dear Church, this is the promise of our Living God and this is what He wants, everything
is laid crystal clear in front of us, the scripture, the words of God is clear and the only thing that
we as a believer need to do is to choose. So what do you want to choose my dear Church, do you
want a new beginning in your life, do you want to see a new transformation in your life this New
Year or do you want to stay with the same old life. The choice is yours!
So my question here for all of us is which life do you want to choose or do I want choose? And
the choice of our answer will decide whether we will have a new beginning in life or we stay like
the same old life with no changes.
With this I want to encourage each and every one of us present here to think about it with prayers
and make the right choice.
My sincere prayer for you this New Year is that the abundant life in Jesus Christ, be your
portion, in Jesus’ name.
HAPPY NEW YEAR, TO ALL. GOD BLESS, JAIMASI!
