Minimum limits

 10,000 for bodily injury


 20,000 per crash
 10,000 property damage
 10,000 personal injuries per person per crash

Traffic Laws

 Points are assigned to your license based on traffic offenses.


 12 points in 12 months = Suspended license.

Traffic Violations

 Unlawful Speed 15 MPH or less over posted speed = -3 points


 Unlawful Speed 16 MPH or more over posted speed = -4 points
 Unlawful speed resulting in a crash = -6 points
 Reckless driving = -3 points
 Passing a stopped school bus = -3 points
 Violation of curfew = -3 points
 Child restraint violation = -3 points

Move Over Law

 Two-lane: 20 MPH below posted speed


 20 MPH or less zone: reduce to 5 MPH

IPDE Process

 I – Identify – Locate potential hazards within the driving scene.


 P – Predict – Judge where the possible points of conflict may
occur.
 D – Decide – Determine what action to take, when, and where to
take it.
 E – Execute – Act by maneuvering the car to avoid conflicts.

Exterior Checks

 Walk around the vehicle to do an inspection


o Check all four tires
o Check all glass windows
o Look under vehicle for any fluids
o Look at area around the vehicle

Interior Checks
 Adjust your seat to see over wheel and be able to reach the
pedals.
 Make sure hands are comfortable at wheel
 Secure your seatbelt
 Adjust rearview mirror

Colors of Signs

 Green - Directions
 Red - Stop/yield
 Blue - Services for drivers
 Orange - Road work/maintenance
 Brown - Recreation
 Yellow - General warning
 White or Black - Regulations/laws
 Neon Yellow - General warning/caution

Shapes of Signs

 Octagons – Stop
 Circle – Railroad crossing
 Triangle – Yield
 Pentagon – School crossing
 Diamond – Warning
 Rectangle – Regulatory or guide
 Crossbuck – Railroad crossing

Classifications of Road Signs

 Guide signs are used to convey information about routes, points


of interest, emergency services, and more.
o Interstate markers look like shields and are always red,
white, and blue.

Pavement Markings

 White
o Solid white line indicates a lane moving in the same
direction
o Turning lanes
 Yellow
o Separate traffic going in opposite directions
o Broken Yellow – Separates traffic going in opposite
directions
o Solid Yellow – Separates traffic going in opposite directions
and passing is not allowed
o Double Solid Yellow - Separates traffic going in opposite
directions and passing is not allowed on either side
o One Solid, One Broken – Separates traffic going in opposite
directions and passing is allowed on the side with the
broken line

Crashes

 Most common causes of crashes are failure to give right of way,


speeding, DUI, failure to obey traffic controls, following too
closely, and improper turning.

 Alcohol is a depressant.
