CHAPTER III
RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODOLOGY
This chapter present a brief description of the general method of research that
will be employed in this study. It includes a discussion of research methodology,
sources of data, the research instrument, data gathering procedure, and the statistical
treatment of data.
Method of Research
The researcher used a quantitative correlational approach to determine the
Impact of Teachers’ Teaching Strategies on the Academic Performance among Senior
High School students of Camarines Norte College. This design is chosen because it
will allow the researcher to identify, gather numerical data, and present clear insights
into different patterns and trends that occur, allowing for a deeper understanding of
the subject matter based on solid factual evidence.
Respondents of the study
The respondents of the study were 100 Senior High School students of
Camarines Norte College. They were chosen through random sampling, which means
that the researchers will randomly pick the respondents. These students were
considered appropriate respondents because they are the ones who encounter those
different teaching styles of teachers, which are the main variable of the study.
Research Instrument
The researcher used a survey questionnaire as a research instrument using a
rating scale of 1-5, also known as the Likert scale. This questionnaire is a Likert scale,
5-Strongly Agree, 4- Agree, 3- Moderately Agree, 2- Disagree, and 1- Strongly
Disagree. The researchers will utilize a self-made questionnaire, which was divided
based on the objectives of the study. The questionnaire will be personally distributed
to the respondents.
Sources of Data
The primary data for this research is obtained from the survey questionnaire
distributed to and answered by the respondents.
The secondary data for this research is obtained from the review of related
literature and the review of related studies that were collected by the researchers.
Data Gathering Procedure
The researcher prepared a structured and understandable questionnaire, which
will be distributed to the selected respondents. The respondents will be given clear
instructions and ample time to answer the questions honestly. The data collected will
then be encoded and analyzed using statistical methods to determine the relationship
between Teacher Teaching Styles and Students' Academic Performance among Senior
High School Students of Camarines Norte College.
Statistical Treatment of Data
The collected data is analyzed using the Weighted Mean, T-test, and Pearson's
R correlation will be applied to interpret the survey findings. The t-test, on the other
hand, will be used to compare the means of two groups of data.
A. Weighted Mean
This was used to determine the extent to which the respondents will rate or
assess the items in the questionnaire using the formula of rate WM, where ∑ is
summation, F is the frequency, X is the weight of category responses, and N is the
total number of responses.
B. Pearson Correlation Coefficient (Pearson r)
This is used to determine the Impact of Teachers’ Teaching Strategies on the
Academic Performance among Senior High School students of Camarines Norte
College. Using the formula: Where r represents the corresponding coefficient, n is the
number of pairs or respondents, x represents the values for Teacher Teaching Styles,
and y represents the value for Students' Academic Performance.
After calculating the sums, plug these values into the formulas to find the r. If
the value of r is positive, it means that Teachers' teaching strategies have a
relationship with the Students' Academic Performance. On the other hand, a negative
value shows a reverse effect. This approach helps the researchers see not only how
strong the connection is but also the direction of the relationship between two
variables.
C. T-Test
This was used to determine whether there is a significant difference between
the means of two groups. It helps identify if the difference in their responses is real or
just due to chance.
