QURANIC VERSES AND HADITHS

Lesson 6: Salat-of-Tahajjud
Quranic Verses

1. Sura Al-Furqan (25:64)


‫َواَّلِذيَن َيِبيُتوَن ِلَرِّبِهْم ُس َّج ًدا َوِقَياًما‬

"And those who spend [part of] the night to their Lord prostrating and standing [in prayer]."

2. Sura Al-Muzzammil (73:6)


‫ِإ َّن َناِش َئَة الَّل ْيِل ِهَي َأ َش ُّد َوْط ًئا َوَأ ْقَوُم ِقيًلا‬

"Indeed, the hours of the night are more effective for concurrence [of heart and tongue] and more suitable for words."

Hadith Verses

1. Sahih al-Bukhari
"Our Lord, the Blessed, the Superior, descends every night to the nearest heaven when the last third of the night
remains, saying: 'Is there anyone to invoke Me, so that I may respond to his invocation? Is there anyone to ask Me, so
that I may grant him his request? Is there anyone seeking My forgiveness, so that I may forgive him?'"

2. Sunan al-Tirmidhi
The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: "Hold fast to the night prayer (Tahajjud), for indeed it was the practice of the
righteous people before you, a means of drawing closer to your Lord, an expiation for bad deeds, and a barrier against
sin."

Lesson 7: Salatul Ishraq and Salat-Ul-Awabin

Quranic Verses

1. Sura Sad (38:18)


‫ِإ َّن ا َس َّخ ْرَنا اْل ِجَباَل َمَعُه ُيَسِّبْح َن ِباْلَعِشِّي َواْلِإ ْشَراِق‬

"Indeed, We subjected the mountains to exalt [Our praise] along with him (David) in the afternoon and [after] sunrise
(Ishraq)."
2. Sura Al-Isra (17:25)
‫ِإَف َّن ُه َكاَن ِلْلَأ َّو اِبيَن َغُفوًرا‬

"...then indeed He is ever, to those who often return to Him (Awwabin), Forgiving."

Hadith Verses

1. Sunan al-Tirmidhi (Ishraq/Duha Prayer)


The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: "Whoever prays the morning prayer (Fajr) in congregation, then sits
remembering Allah until the sun rises, then prays two rak'ahs, he will receive a reward like that of a complete Hajj and
Umrah."

2. Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah (Awabin/Duha)


The Prophet (PBUH) said: "None maintains the Duha prayer except the Awwabin (those who constantly turn to Allah
in repentance)."

Lesson 8: Sawm (Fasting)


Quranic Verses

1. Sura Al-Baqarah (2:184)


‫َوَأ ن َتُصوُموا َخْيٌر َّل ُكْمۖ ِإ ن ُكنُتْم َتْعَلُموَن‬

"...And fasting is better for you, if only you knew."

2. Sura Al-Ahzab (33:35)


‫ َأ َعَّد الَّل ُه َلُهم َّم ْغِفَرًة َوَأ ْجًرا َعِظيًما‬... ‫َوالَّص اِئِميَن َوالَّص اِئَماِت‬

"...and the fasting men and fasting women... Allah has prepared for them forgiveness and a great reward."

Hadith Verses

1. Sahih al-Bukhari
The Prophet (PBUH) said: "Allah said: 'Every good deed of Adam's son is for him except fasting; it is for Me, and I shall
reward (the fasting person) for it.'"

2. Musnad Ahmad
The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: "Fasting and the Qur'an will intercede for the servant on the Day of Resurrection.
Fasting will say: 'O my Lord, I prevented him from food and desires during the day, so let me intercede for him...'"
Lesson 9: Sahari, Iftar, Qaza, and Kaffara
Quranic Verses

1. Sura Al-Baqarah (2:187) – (Sahari & Iftar timing)


‫َوُكُلوا َواْشَرُبوا َحَّت ٰى َيَتَبَّيَن َلُكُم اْلَخْيُط اْلَأ ْبَيُض ِمَن اْلَخْيِط اْلَأ ْس َوِد ِمَن اْلَفْج ِرۖ ُثَّم َأ ُّمِت وا الِّص َياَم ِإ َلى الَّل ْيِل‬

"And eat and drink until the white thread of dawn becomes distinct to you from the black thread [of night]. Then
complete the fast until the sunset (nightfall)."

2. Sura Al-Baqarah (2:185) – (Qaza)


‫َوَمن َكاَن َمِريًضا َأ ْو َعَلٰى َسَفٍر َفِعَّد ٌة ِّمْن َأ َّي اٍم ُأ َخَرۗ ُيِريُد الَّل ُه ِبُكُم اْلُيْسَر‬

"...and whoever is ill or on a journey - then an equal number of other days [must be made up]. Allah intends for you
ease..."

Hadith Verses

1. Sahih al-Bukhari (Sahari)


The Prophet (PBUH) said: "Take Sahur (pre-dawn meal), for indeed there is a blessing in Sahur."

2. Sahih al-Bukhari (Iftar)


The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: "The people will remain on the path of goodness as long as they hasten to break
their fast (Iftar)."

3. Sahih al-Bukhari (Kaffara)


A man came to the Prophet (PBUH) stating he had broken his Ramadan fast intentionally. The Prophet (PBUH)
instructed him to expiate (Kaffara) by freeing a slave, or if unable, fasting for two consecutive months, or if unable,
feeding sixty poor people.

Lesson 10: Itikaf and Sadaqatul Fitr


Quranic Verses

1. Sura Al-Baqarah (2:187) – (Itikaf)


‫َوَلا ُتَباِشُروُهَّن َوَأ نُتْم َعاِكُفوَن ِفي اْلَمَساِجِد‬

"...And do not have intimate relations with your wives while you are staying in the mosques in devotion (Itikaf)."
2. Sura Al-A'la (87:14-15) – (Charity before Eid prayer)
‫َقْد َأ ْفَلَح َمن َتَزَّك ٰى * َوَذَكَر اْسَم َرِّبِه َفَص َّلٰى‬

"He has certainly succeeded who purifies himself (Tazakka), and mentions the name of his Lord and prays." (Classical
commentators often noted this refers to giving Sadaqatul Fitr before performing the Eid prayer).

Hadith Verses

1. Sahih al-Bukhari (Itikaf)


Aisha (R.A.) narrated: "The Prophet (PBUH) used to practice Itikaf in the last ten days of Ramadan until he passed
away."

2. Sunan Abi Dawud (Sadaqatul Fitr)


Ibn Abbas narrated: "The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) enjoined Zakat al-Fitr (Sadaqatul Fitr) as a purification for the
fasting person from empty talk and obscene language, and as food for the poor. Whoever pays it before the Eid prayer,
it is an accepted Zakat."
