CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background to the Study – Discuss a background information/existing data on your topic,
problem statement with supporting data, and the rationale to show why the study is needed from
your perspective.
1.2 Statement of the Problem – In clear terms, state what problem(s) you are solving, not as in
Background of the Study (1.1 above).
1.3 Aim and Objectives of the Study – The aim of the study MUST capture your topic. Then
itemize the steps you must follow to achieve your aim (objectives).
2
1.4 Significance of the Study – Discuss how relevant and useful your research is to contemporary
issues.
1.5 Scope of the Study – Define what the study is going to cover and what it is focusing on i.e. the
extent to which the research area will be explored.
1.6 Limitations of the Study – These are the flaws or shortcomings that impacted or influenced your
findings e.g. unavailability of some resources, flawed methodology, etc.
1.7 Definition of Terms – Define all the key words and abbreviations used in your project.
CHAPTER TWO
LITERATURE REVIEW
Related works or previous research on a topic (from books, journals, conference
proceedings, online materials, etc) must be extensively reviewed with in-text citations.
Current implementations that overcome previous problems and limitations of the project
must be clearly stated.
CHAPTER THREE
METHODOLOGY AND SYSTEMS ANALYSIS
Clearly outline the methodology used (SSADM, OOADM, Prototyping, etc).
Define the purpose, operations and procedures of an existing system and PROPOSE a
system to accomplish them efficiently.
CHAPTER FOUR
SYSTEMS DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION
Logical and Physical Designs of the proposed system must be presented using tools such
as Context Diagrams, E-R Diagrams, DFD, Flow Charts etc. Simply put, present the
analysed (converted) data/system in the form of figures.
In systems implementation, the researcher is required to define how the system should be
built (i.e., physical system design). Ensuring that the system is operational and used,
ensuring that the system meets quality standard. Total execution of the design (plan) is
done here.
CHAPTER FIVE
SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION
A summary of the most significant results/findings. A recap of the important information
in the project is given here.
Conclusion is discussed based on researcher insights gained regarding the findings and
limitations of the study.
Recommendations are suggestions on what needs to be done as a result of your findings.
