Removing 'Very' from Your Speech

1 ➜ Replace “very + adjective” with a stronger adjective

very hot boiling / scorching
very old ancient
very fast rapid / swift

2 ➜ Use vivid verbs instead of “very + adverb”

3 ➜ Use modifiers other than “very”
• extremely (extremely important)
• highly (highly effective)
• deeply (deeply concerned)
• terribly (terribly sorry)

4 ➜ Show, don’t tell


Instead of saying “very hot”, describe:

More descriptive → more natural.
