Description and Objectives of the Course

The goal of this course is to introduce students to basic ideas of statistics for analyzing data and their application
in a variety of disciplines. We will emphasize the basic principles and criteria for selecting the appropriate
statistical technique. The main objectives are:
 To introduce descriptive measures, probability, statistical inference, linear regression and correlation.
 To provide students with a clear understanding of basic statistical concepts and to introduce descriptive
measures, probability and statistical inference.
 To develop ideas for helping to make decisions based on understanding of a few deep concepts and
interpretation of data and statistical results.
 To emphasize examples and applications from different disciplines in science by presenting real-life statistical
applications.
 To learn how to design, conduct and analyze a research study.
 To present well-organized real life opportunities for applying the statistical concepts.

Participation and Exams:-

Attendance is absolutely mandatory. Students who miss 6 class sessions without a compelling
excuse will qualify the student to be dismissed. “Makeup for first, second and final exams are
allowed only in circumstance of serious illness or other extreme situations. Documents are
required, the instructor is expected to be notified as soon as possible for makeup”.
