3.1 Q1

Situation
It was back in my high school days. I was part of the school band
and management team. Our team organize the funding event for
disabled people every 6 months. The situation was at that time
the school needed to rent extra amplifiers and mics for our school
band. If not, there will only be violins and acoustic guitars, which
do not need an amplifier. We had a limited budget.
Task
The challenge was to use budget on renting extra amplifiers or
just perform without them
Action
As an organizing team, we needed to decide. So, we used
marginal thinking to solve the problem. If we only perform songs
with violins and guitars, there will be less people coming and less
funds since most of the audience think it will be quite boring. If
we rent the amplifiers, we will be able to perform as a full band.
The rental fee will cost $100. But we forecast that we will
marginally benefit by at least $150 by performing as a full band.
Since the marginal benefit exceeded the marginal cost, we
decided to rent the amplifiers.
Result
By the end of the event, we got more funds than we expected.
3.2 Q2
Situation
The company is an event marketing company and now wants to
expand the business by utilizing trade. And so, they are now
analyzing for the benefit of trade.
Task
The company wants to get more earnings by reducing costs and
resources. So, the company would like to explore the trade
partners and opportunities. Additionally, it also wants to forecast
the benefit of partnering with external factors by using the
absolute and comparative advantages concepts.
Action
By using the concept mentioned above, I identified that trading
could make the organizations more efficient and effective with
lower cost and time. For example, we do the march and gift for a
promotion event. On the other hand, we have limited machines
and amounts since we are a marketing company and not a
production firm. So, we need more time and resources. If we use
trade and we connect to a gift and souvenir company, they can
produce faster and cheaper, so we get comparative advantage.
Secondly, if we have event with the requirement of non-ordinary
stage layout, we can partner with a decoration company. They will
set up better than us, thanks to their specialist. We can get higher
quality than we achieve ourselves. In this, we are getting absolute
advantage.
3.3 Q3
Situation
To forecast that demand and supply for event marketing industry
and how it will be changed in next 5 years according to Singapore
market.
Task
My challenges are to understand the Singapore market trends and
analyze using the PESTEL framework. Moreover, to forecast the
demand and supply condition for event marketing job.
Action
According to PESTEL analysis, the demand for the event
marketing will increase as the Singapore market is competitive
and still will be in that condition. Many new companies and
brands need to stand out in this economy; therefore, this role will
be still in high demand.
Secondly is technology integration. Event marketing work
blending with technology. This makes the clients want more
%sophisticated design and strategies. So, the event marketers
will still be in high demand in the next 5 years.
From supply side, new marketers, fresh graduates like us are
entering into the job market. This will be supply for the services in
the market. Additionally, the government in Singapore provides
the MICE (meetings, incentives, conference and exhibition sector).
Therefore, event-based business will have continuing growth in
this industry and motivate talent supply.
Result
Based on the analysis, I forecast an upward trend in both supply
and demand for event marketing. Economic competition and
technology will be key factors of demand and labor force, and
government support will be main drivers for supply side.
