CHAPTER III
METHODOLOGY
This chapter presents the methods and approaches of the research study.
It consists research design, source of data, population, instrumentation and
data collection, and tools for statistical analysis.
Research Design
A quantitative research design will be employed, specifically correlational
study. The study aims to identify and evaluate the relationship between the two
variables, the teacher and learner rapport on engagement levels among Grade
12 Humanities and Social Science students. This design will allow for the
examination of the relationship between teacher and students on engagement
without manipulating any variables.
Locale of the Study
This study will be conducted at Dumpay National High School with 32
Grade 12 Humanities and Social Science students. It is located at Paraiso
Street, Dumpay Basista, Pangasinan. The survey questionnaires will be
conducted in face-to-face mode inside the campus. Responses will be gathered
through in-person distribution of printed questionnaires.
Population and Sampling Techniques
Population
The population of this study is made up of all Grade 12 Humanities and
Social Science Smith students at Dumpay National High School during the
School Year 2025-2026.
Sampling Design
The study will focus only on Grade 12 Humanities and Social Science Smith
students. A simple random sampling method will be used, which means every
Humanities and Social Science smith students will have an equal chance of
being selected as a respondent.
The total number of Humanities and Social Science smith students is 32, the
researchers may use census, meaning all students in Humanities and Social
Science Smith will be part of the study.
Data Gathering Procedure
In gathering data, researchers will seek a consent to the school principal
and before interrupting the Grade 12 students. Researchers will distribute the
questionnaires to the selected students during vacant class time. Assuring the
students that their responses will remain confidential and anonymous.
Research Instrument
The study primarily uses the survey questionnaires as the main data
collection tool. The questionnaires are validated by the advisor and panelists to
ensure the content credibility. Data collected from the respondents who
completed the survey questionnaires were gathered through face-to-face inside
the Dumpay National High School using printed questionnaires forms.
Tools for Statistical Analysis
In evaluating the statement of the problem, frequency and spearman’s rank
correlation coefficient is used to represent the Data gathered coming from the
research questionnaires.
The formula of spearman’s rank correlation coefficient is:
ρ = 1 - (6 * Σd²) / (n * (n² - 1)).
Where :
Σd² - is the sum of the squared differences between the ranks of
two variables.
n – is the number of observations.
