Objectives of the IEEE PELS Student Branch Chapter

The formation of the IEEE Power Electronics Society (PELS) Student Branch Chapter at Malnad College of
Engineering (MCE) serves several clearly defined academic and professional objectives.
Foremost among them is to create an active platform for students to pursue technical advancement in the
field of power electronics through collaboration, innovation, and experimentation. The chapter aims to
connect theoretical learning with real-world applications, encouraging students to design, test, and
implement practical electronic systems related to power conversion, motor drives, renewable energy, and
embedded control.

Another major objective is to develop leadership and organizational skills among student members by
engaging them in planning and executing technical events, workshops, and competitions. Through these
experiences, members cultivate teamwork, responsibility, and communication skills essential for successful
professional practice.

Additionally, the chapter intends to strengthen the relationship between academia and industry by facilitating
guest lectures, technical talks, and networking opportunities with experienced professionals and IEEE
members from across India and abroad. These interactions are designed to expose students to current
technological trends, research methodologies, and career opportunities in the field of power electronics.

Finally, the chapter will encourage participation in IEEE-sponsored conferences, paper presentations, and
design contests. This active engagement not only enhances the college’s technical visibility but also
motivates students to pursue higher education and research with a global outlook.

About IEEE Power Electronics Society (PELS)

The IEEE Power Electronics Society is one of the prominent societies under the global Institute of Electrical
and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Established in 1987, IEEE PELS is devoted to the advancement of power
electronics technology for the betterment of humanity. It provides a platform for engineers, researchers, and
