Step-1: Add DHCP Role from Server manager
Step 1: Open Server Manager
Click the start button then click the Server Manager
Step 2: Add roles and features
On the server manager dashboard click “Add roles and features”
Step 3: Select Role-based or feature-based installation
Make sure “Role-based or feature-based installation is selected and click next
Step 4: Select the destination server
Step 5: Select server roles
Select the DHCP server roles and click next and Click add features
Step 6: Confirmation
On the confirmation page, you can select to automatically restart the server if
required.
You will get an install progress page; it will say install succeeded when complete.
Step-2: Configure DHCP Server
Step 1: Server Manager
In the server manager dashboard, you will see a yellow notification at the top left
Click on “Complete DHCP configuration”
Step 2: Post-Install configuration wizard On the description screen click next
On the authorization page use AD credentials if the server is joined to the domain.
Note: Choose “Skip AD authorization” if the DHCP server is standalone and not
joined to the domain.
Click commit
Click close
Now you can open the DHCP management console to configure DHCP scopes and
other options.
Step-3: Configure DHCP Server
Open the DHCP Management Console
In Server Manager Tools Select DHCP to open the DHCP management tool.
Create a New IPv4 Scope
In the left pane, right-click IPv4 Select New Scope.
The New Scope Wizard will open. Click Next.
Name the Scope
Enter a name for the scope Click Next.
Set the IP Address Range
Enter a Start IP address and an End IP address for the DHCP scope.
Example: Start: [Link] → End: [Link]
Configure Scope Settings
On the Exclusions and Delay screen, leave defaults. Click Next.
On the Lease Duration screen, keep default settings. Click Next.
On the "Configure DHCP Options" screen, select "Yes, I want to configure these options
now" and click Next.
Configure Router (Default Gateway)
Enter the Default Gateway Address) Click Add click Next.
Configure DNS
The wizard will automatically detect your DNS server address.
If needed, add another DNS server manually.
Keep clicking Next until you reach the confirmation screen.
Now you have created a DHCP scope and completed the configure DHCP server process.
Step 4: Verify DHCP Server is Working (Client Side)
Open Network Settings on Client Server
On a Windows client machine, right-click the Network icon.
Select Open Network & Internet settings.
Change Adapter Settings
Click Change adapter options.
Right-click your Ethernet adapter, then select Properties.
Set TCP/IPv4 to Automatic
Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).
Click Properties.
Choose:
o Obtain an IP address automatically
o Obtain DNS server address automatically
Click OK, and then Close.
Check IP Address
Double-click the Ethernet adapter.
Click Details to confirm that the client has received an IP address from your Windows DHCP
server.
