PART 1: THE INTRODUCTION – SETTING THE SCENE
(The presentation begins. Luciana and Isabella walk onto the stage
carrying backpacks, looking around as if climbing a steep hill. They
speak with high energy, simulating physical effort.)
LUCIANA:
(Wiping sweat from her forehead, smiling)
Wow, Isabella! Just look at this incredible landscape! I know the hike up
here has been exhausting, but the scenery in this national park is
stunning. I’m so glad we decided to spend our weekend in this nature
reserve.
ISABELLA:
(Nodding enthusiastically, pointing to the distance)
I completely agree, Luciana! It is breathtaking. Look over there! In the
distance, you can see the highest mountain peak of the entire range.
And listen... can you hear that water? There is a freshwater stream right
next to that majestic waterfall on our left.
LUCIANA:
Yes! I read that this area is a protected habitat for many wild animals.
However, because it is so wild, we must take precautions. The trails
here are very steep, and the ground is quite wet and muddy.
ISABELLA:
Ah, don't worry so much, Luciana! You are always so overprotective. We
are experienced hikers. Look, we are almost at the summit! Let's get
closer to the shore of that high-altitude lake to take some spectacular
photos.
LUCIANA:
I don't know, Isabella... the trail signs say we should stay on the path.
The natural features of this mountain can be very unpredictable. But
okay, let's go slowly.
PART 2: THE ACCIDENT – THE SUDDEN FALL
(The mood shifts from happiness to tense. Isabella walks toward an
imaginary edge, looking through her phone camera, distracted.)
ISABELLA:
Oh, wow! The lighting here is perfect for selfies. Let me just step back a
little bit to capture the waterfall behind me... (she takes a step
backward, slips dramatically) Oh! Whoa! Help me, Luciana!
LUCIANA:
(Screaming)
Isabella, watch out! You are going to trip over that exposed tree root!
Stop!
ISABELLA:
(Screams and acts out a fall)
Ahhhh! (She falls to the floor, rolls slightly, and hits her head against the
stage floor/prop) Oh! My head! I just crashed into that big rock!
LUCIANA:
(Running to her side, kneeling down in panic)
Oh my god! Isabella! Are you okay? Speak to me!
ISABELLA:
(Groaning in deep pain, touching her forehead)
Ugh... my head is spinning... I think I injured my ankle too... and I can
feel something warm on my face... Oh no, Luciana, my head is starting
to bleed... I feel so dizzy... everything is turning black...
LUCIANA:
(Anxious)
Isabella, stay with me! Keep your eyes open! Don't close them!
ISABELLA:
(Closes her eyes, goes completely limps on the floor, pretending to faint)
(Silence)
LUCIANA:
(Shaking Isabella gently)
Isabella? Isabella! Oh, heavens! She has lost consciousness! She isn't
responding! Let me check... (places two fingers on Isabella's neck) Okay,
she has a pulse. Thank goodness, she can still breathe. But her head is
bleeding heavily. I need to call for help immediately! There is no time to
lose!
PART 3: THE EMERGENCY PHONE CALL (MANDATORY)
(Isabella quickly sits up but keeps her eyes closed or puts on a cap to
play the role of the Emergency Operator. Luciana takes out her phone
and dial-tones loudly: "Ring... Ring...")
ISABELLA (As OPERATOR):
(Using a professional, calm, robotic telephone voice)
Emergency Services. Which service do you require? Fire, Police, or
Ambulance?
LUCIANA:
(Speaking in panic, crying out)
Ambulance! I need an ambulance and a rescue team right now! My
friend has had a terrible accident in the mountains!
ISABELLA (As OPERATOR):
Please remain calm, ma'am. Where are you calling from?
LUCIANA:
We are in the Cascades Mountain Range, inside the National Nature
Reserve. We are on the trail that goes to the highest peak, right next to
the big waterfall and the stream.
ISABELLA (As OPERATOR):
Understood. Can you tell me exactly what’s happened?
LUCIANA:
My friend was taking a photo, she tripped over a root, tumbled down a
rocky slope, and crashed into a boulder. She hit her head very hard!
ISABELLA (As OPERATOR):
I see. Has anybody else been injured? And is the victim conscious and
breathing?
LUCIANA:
No, only my friend is hurt. She is not conscious; she lost
consciousness about two minutes ago. She is bleeding from her
forehead, but yes, she is still breathing. Her breathing is slow but
steady.
ISABELLA (As OPERATOR):
Okay. Here are your instructions: Do not try to move her, as she might
have a spinal injury. You must treat the injury on her head. Do you
have any cloth or bandages?
LUCIANA:
Yes! I have a clean jacket and a small first-aid kit in my backpack.
ISABELLA (As OPERATOR):
Excellent. Apply firm and continuous pressure on the wound with the
jacket to stop the blood. Keep her warm. An air medical team is
preparing to rescue you. We are dispatching a helicopter to your
coordinates. Stay on the line.
LUCIANA:
Thank you! Please hurry, it's getting cold here near the summit.
PART 4: THE INVESTIGATION – WHAT PROBABLY HAPPENED
(Isabella removes her "Operator hat" and returns to the scene. Luciana
pretends to wrap a bandage around Isabella's head. Isabella slowly
"wakes up" groaning. They sit side by side, recovering on the mountain
path, waiting for the helicopter.)
ISABELLA (As ISABELLA):
(Weakly, touching her bandaged head)
Ugh... Luciana? What happened? My head hurts so much...
LUCIANA:
(Relieved)
Oh, Isabella! You are finally awake! You fainted for about five minutes.
Don't move too much, I have just treated your injury, and the
emergency helicopter is on its way.
ISABELLA:
I am so sorry, Luciana... I feel so stupid. How did I end up like this?
LUCIANA:
Well, let’s think about it. You must have been completely distracted by
your phone. You can't have seen the warning signs back on the main
trail.
ISABELLA:
You are right. I must have ignored them because I was so focused on
getting a nice photo of the landscape for my social media. But what
about the ground? It felt like the rock just collapsed under my feet.
LUCIANA:
Yes, the soil near the shore of the lake is very loose. The wet weather
might have made the trail much more slippery than we expected.
ISABELLA:
Also, we could have checked the trail conditions with the park rangers
at the entrance. If we had asked them, they would have warned us about
the mud near the waterfall.
LUCIANA:
Exactly. We can't have checked the weather report either, because if we
had, we would have known it rained heavily last night, making the tree
roots extremely slippery. We were very irresponsible.
PART 5: REFLECTION, REGRETS & WISHES
(Both characters stand up slowly, looking out towards the audience as if
reflecting on a great life lesson. This is the emotional climax of the
presentation.)
ISABELLA:
This has been the scariest day of my life. Sitting here, waiting for a
helicopter to rescue us, I have so many regrets. I wish we had stayed
on the marked path. If we had followed the rules, I wouldn't have slipped
and I wouldn't have hit my head.
LUCIANA:
If only we had checked the terrain before starting our climb to the
summit. And honestly, I wish you hadn't been using your phone while
walking near the edge of a cliff. It was incredibly dangerous.
ISABELLA:
I know. If I had worn my professional hiking boots instead of these flat
sneakers, I wouldn't have tripped on that wet root.
LUCIANA:
And if I hadn't packed that first-aid kit in my backpack, I wouldn't
have been able to treat your injury or stop the bleeding.
ISABELLA:
And if you hadn't kept calm and called the emergency operator
immediately, we would have been stuck here in the cold wilderness for
hours without any help. You saved my life, Luciana. Thank you.
LUCIANA:
That’s what best friends do. But let’s make a promise. From now on, we
will always take precautions. We will never go near dangerous natural
features just for a picture.
ISABELLA:
Absolutely. No more reckless selfies. Next time, I think I would prefer to
go to a calm bay or a sunny beach shore instead of climbing a
dangerous mountain range!
LUCIANA:
(Laughs)
I agree! A safe beach sounds perfect. Look! I can hear the helicopter
rotor in the sky! We are finally being saved!
(Both look up at the sky, waving their hands toward the ceiling as a loud
helicopter sound effect plays. They take a bow.)
BOTH:
