ABSTRACT

In today's highly mobile society, finding suitable, verified, and affordable accommodation is a
major hurdle for students and working professionals relocating to new cities. Traditional
methods of finding rental properties are heavily reliant on offline brokers, word-of-mouth, or
fragmented local listings, which lack transparency and often incur hidden intermediary costs.

To address this critical gap, we propose "A-Z Accommodation"—a robust, full-stack digital
platform designed to streamline the room rental and accommodation management process.
Developed using the modern MERN-lite stack ([Link], [Link], MongoDB, EJS, and CSS),
the system implements a highly secure and scalable Model-View-Controller (MVC) architecture.

The platform serves a dual-sided marketplace. For room seekers, it offers advanced, optimized
search functionalities, intuitive filtering, and real-time room booking mechanisms. For property
owners, it provides a comprehensive administrative dashboard to manage listings, track booking
statuses, and securely manage tenant interactions. Features such as encrypt-secured user
authentication, session management, and responsive UI design ensure a seamless and protected
user experience across all devices. This report outlines the system requirements, software process
modeling, implementation design, and testing protocols utilized to bring A-Z Accommodation to
a production-ready state.

completing the project within the specified timeline.

Thus, the feasibility study shows that “A 2 Z Accommodations” is technically, economically,

operationally, and practically suitable for implementation.

4.2 Incremental RAD Model

The Incremental RAD (Rapid Application Development) Model is a software development
approach that combines the features of both the Incremental Model and the RAD Model. In this
model, the complete system is divided into smaller modules or increments, and each module is
developed rapidly within a short period of time. Every increment adds new functionalities to the
system until the final software is fully completed.

22
The Incremental RAD Model focuses on fast development and continuous user interaction. The
development process is carried out in phases, where each phase delivers a working part of the
system. This helps developers identify errors and user requirements at an early stage, making the
software more reliable and efficient.

In this model, user feedback plays an important role during development. After completion of
each module, feedback is collected from users and necessary modifications are made before
developing the next increment. This improves the quality of the final system and ensures that the
software fulfills user requirements properly.

The model supports parallel development activities, where different modules of the system can
be developed simultaneously by different teams. This reduces the overall development time and
increases productivity. It also helps in easy testing and maintenance because each module can be
tested independently before integration.

systems where requirements may change frequently. Since the development is carried out
incrementally, new features and improvements can be added easily without affecting the entire
system.

The “A 2 Z Accommodations” project follows the Incremental RAD (Rapid Application

Development) Model. This model is used because the project consists of different modules that
can be developed, tested, and implemented separately. The RAD model focuses on faster
development, user feedback, and continuous improvement of the system.

In this model, the project is divided into small parts or modules such as user authentication,
accommodation listing, searching, booking, and admin management. Each module is developed
and tested individually before integrating it into the complete system. This helps in reducing
development time and improving system quality.

The Incremental RAD Model provides:

• Faster development process.

• Easy modification and enhancement.
• Better user feedback during development.
• Reduced development risk.
• Efficient testing of individual modules.

Thus, the Incremental RAD Model is suitable for developing the “A 2 Z Accommodations” web
application because it supports modular development and efficient project management.

of the “A 2 Z Accommodations” web application.

5.3 API Endpoint Design (RESTful Architecture)

The API adheres to RESTful architectural constraints (statelessness, uniform interface, layered
system). HTTP verbs are mapped to operations following standard conventions: GET for
idempotent data retrieval, POST for resource creation, PUT/PATCH for updates, and DELETE
for resource removal. Representative endpoint mappings include:

• GET /rooms — Retrieves all available room documents, supporting query parameters (?city=,
?price=, ?type=) passed to Mongoose filter objects.

• POST /rooms/new — Accepts multipart/form-data from the listing form; processes uploaded
images via Multer, persists a new Room document, and sets the ownerRef field to the
authenticated session’s user ID.

• POST /bookings/:roomId — Creates a new Booking document, atomically sets the

corresponding Room’s isAvailable flag to false, and returns a 201 Created response with the
booking confirmation object.

• DELETE /bookings/:bookingId — Cancels a booking, restoring room availability via an atomic

findByIdAndUpdate() operation to prevent race conditions under concurrent request loads.

25
5.4 Database Schema Design

Mongoose schema definitions enforce data type validation and optional indexing at the ODM
layer before write operations reach the database engine. Key schema attributes are defined as
follows:
• User Schema: { username: String (required, unique), email: String (required, unique, regex-
validated), passwordHash: String (bcrypt-hashed), role: { type: String, enum: [“seeker”,
“owner”] }, createdAt: Date (default: [Link]) }

• Room Schema: { title: String, description: String, city: String (indexed), rentPerMonth:
Number, amenities: [String], imageUrls: [String], ownerRef: { type: ObjectId, ref: “User” },
isAvailable: Boolean (default: true), coordinates: { lat: Number, lng: Number } }

• Booking Schema: { tenantRef: { type: ObjectId, ref: “User” }, roomRef: { type: ObjectId, ref:
“Room” }, status: { type: String, enum: [“PENDING”, “CONFIRMED”, “CANCELLED”] },
bookedOn: Date, checkIn: Date, checkOut: Date }

Population of relational references is performed using Mongoose’s .populate() method, enabling

JOIN-like behaviour across collections while preserving MongoDB’s document model
flexibility. The city field in the Room schema carries a B-tree index to optimize query latency for
location-based filtered searches.

transform the data. The information flow and the transform that are applied as data move from
the input to output. It is starting point of the design phase that functionally decomposes the
requirement specifications down to the lowest level of details. Thus a DFD describes what data
flow(logical) rather than how they are processed.

Unlike details flowchart, data flow diagram do no supply detailed description of the module but
graphically describes a system’s data interact with the system. to construct a dataflow diagram,
we use-
• Arrows
• Circles
• Open end box
• Square

An arrow identifies the dataflow in motion. it is a pipeline though which information is flows
like the rectangle in the flowchart. A circle stands for process that converts data into information.
An open-ended box represents a data store, Data at rest or a temporary repository of data. Square
